Taking a sick day/ Closed Mission/ Hyo Core

It was another day and Rei found herself in a particularly good mood. The sun was out and the weather was nice, she’d gotten some good deals on a few essentials she’d been needing for her home, and, likely thanks to the litwick floating near her backpack, she actually had a little bit of breathing room on the crowded streets of Hyo, which meant she didn't have to worry about bumping someone with the egg she had inside of it. She had also been given reports of Pokémon exhibiting symptoms of ROT had been seen around the area. This in and of itself wasn’t great news, Hyo was a busy city and a port to boot. If the contagion made it onto one of those boats it could turn this epidemic into a pandemic. It was, however, a chance to prove herself to Plasma by capturing the bugger to bring back and learn more about the disease.

She made her way through as many alleys as she could on her way through the city, careful not to draw too much attention to herself doing so. She wanted to find a sick Pokémon, not undue trouble with the Resistance. Although, if it came to that, she was ready to fight…. Or run… as the case may be.

You wouldn't have to travel long or far to find an infected Pokemon. The air in Hyo was as thick as always, especially in the Core, so close to where everyone lived, so close to all that traffic and noise. Pokemon were already irritable but they typically avoided people. Which is why you would find it odd to be assaulted with a nauseatingly sweet smell, and a hint of honeysuckle perfume.

There was vicious snarling. Unlike anything you've likely ever heard in your life. It could be compared to a vicious, out of control dragon that was reacting out of fear. That snarling permeated the air and echoed down the hallway, very clearly defensive. And it was coming from a Snubbull that looked ready to kill. It's a Snubbull though, and their faces were hard to read. If things weren't in such a chaotic flurry, it'd be clear that this Pokemon was riddled with fear and pain.

It demonstrated all the signs of ROT though. It's hyper aggression, and snapping icy fangs towards a Spritzee that let out a distressed cry. Like a friend crying out in reason. A Swirlix nearby floated a little further back with a hop, and was the first one that turned towards you.

The Snubbull saw this, and turned towards you, backing up further till it was pressed against a wall of a building, snarling. The Spritzee also saw you, though seemed ready more than anything to defend the rabid Pokemon that just tried to Ice Fang him.

It's clear who the poisoned one is and he's got his wide eyes and drooling jowls faced towards you, waiting...

Disoriented, mindlessly aggressive, drooling, eyes dilated. This snubbull was demonstrating all of the symptoms of ROT, and if those other Pokémon stayed near it, there was a good chance it could spread to them. Rei would need to make sure they were separated before taking the snubbull on. The last thing she needed was the wilds’ interference.

As Wisp hovered near her backpack and warming the egg therein, it eagerly awaited the opportunity to engage this sick fairy; but wouldn’t do so unless they were told or they absolutely must. This was why there were here, right? Burn, weaken, then capture this snubbull so it could be brought back to the scientists studying this disease?

Rei crouches and assumes a defensive and passive posture, addressing the two Pokémon around the sick snubbull in a practiced professional calm, “Your friend is very sick. I have friends who can help them, but I need to take your friend with me so they can. Will you help me help your friend? It’s the best shot they have at getting well again.”

As she spoke, she made sure to keep her distance from the snubbull and keep eyes on all 3 of the mons. She hoped her words would be enough to let her act to help this infected snubbull, but if they were all friends, they could all easily be infected as well and start demonstrating aggressive behaviors as well. “I need you all to understand I am on your side here. Your friend is hurting, and I’m sure my friends can get them the help they need.”

The Spritzee lets out a suspicious cry- why should it believe a human would help! It was a human that did this to his friend in the first place! Maybe you weren't a 100% bad human but it's trust was incredibly damaged, if by the way it only looks between you and the Snubbull.

Who's gotten down to all fours, baring his teeth towards you and taking a few stalking steps forward. It was only a matter of time before he made his charge.

Swirlix on the other hand, didn't see what happened but knew the Snubbull needed to be stopped anyways, making a little airy hops towards you and floating somewhat past you, eyes looking up your form to see what was going to happen next.

The Snubbull is about 5 seconds away from beating everyone's ass

Spritzee ain't buyin all this

Swirlix didn't see what the Spritzee has seen and wants to help this Snubbull so...

It didn’t look like the spritzee was buying it, which was unfortunate, hopefully they didn’t get in the way. The other one though, swirlix, they seemed to be willing to stay out of the way at the very least, which was helpful. Rei turns to the spritzee, a tone of commanding urgency in her voice, “Look, I get that you want to help your friend, but look at them. Is this normal for them? They will not recognize you as this disease progresses and likely attack you. If you aren’t willing to help me, that’s fine, just, please, don’t get in the way.”

Judging by the snubbull’s expression, the time for talking was over anyway, down on all fours and snarling. Wisp eagerly floats forward and gets stopped by Rei, “Not yet, we need to do something about that bracelet first. You’ll get your chance. Keep the egg safe for now, please.”

Grabbing shuckle’s pokeball from her belt, she throws it out in between her and the infected snubbull. “Bloo, it’s fight time, brace yourself and try to get that bracelet away from it.” Bloo nods emphatically and throws herself towards the snubbull, tucking into her shell, ready to spring out and wrap sticky limbs around the clay bracelet and remove it.

Well, from beside you, the Swirlix yawned cutely towards the Snubbull, forcing him to yawn back and leaving him open for Covet to snatch the item right off of him. He didn't like that though, if by the way he got worked up over it said anything, the snarling worsening as his intimidate goes off on the field.

Then suddenly, he begins to gather water around his mouth, spitting out a pulsing set of rings made of water towards your Shuckle...

The Spritzee still seems broken up about this, letting out a sad cry at their friend being hurt.

The snubbull was every bit as vicious as Rei was afraid it would be, the ripples of water hit shuckle and it went reeling, but managed to come back with the clay bracelet and that was what mattered.

She turns to the swirlix, “Thank you for understanding that this needs to happen.” She looks towards the spritzee and sighs, “I am sorry this happened to your friend. But hopefully you see now how rabid they’ve become.” Rei turns her attention back to the snubbull and puts on a determined face, the item was off, it was time to engage it properly.

“Wisp, it’s time. Sunny day and clear smog.” The litwick smiles and eagerly leaves the egg in the backpack and lets out a commanding cry to the sky, fiery energy creating intense sunlight in the alley. Weather control was vital to combat from what Rei had been reading, and the sun should help Wisp, not only do more damage with his fire type attacks, but resist water attacks like that as well. She also knew snubbull was a fairy type pokemon, so this poison type attack would be her best bet for damaging it, for now anyway. 

As her litwick sprang to action, Rei recalls the shuckle. Who, while still slightly dizzy from the blow, is making faces at the snubbull as if to say, ‘That really hurt, but I lived.’

Thankfully a frothing at the mouth maddened pokemon was slightly easier to handle from certain stand points. The Snubbull was swiftly enveloped in a clear smog that both burned pretty badly and made it feel kind of woozy... which only effectively enraged it further. The Snubbull worked itself back up into a frenzy before dashing towards your Litwick.

A vicious flamethrower blew across his face as well, but it did nothing to stop the sleepy, enraged jowls coming your Litwick's way...

Spritzee only cried further as their friend was attacked, and the swirlix seemed remorseful as well that this had to happen. Something to them was very different from what you were seeing as a human...

The frothing snubbull was clearly in a berserk state, in its sedated state it to make no efforts to avoid the attacks launched at it, and blindly retaliated. “Wisp, get out of its reach, and calm mind. We need to plan our next move carefully; we don’t want this Pokémon suffering more than it already is.” The yawn the swirlix used seemed to be doing its job effectively, the snubbull should be succumbing to it any moment now.

The haunted candle floated up out of the drowsing snubbull’s jaws and, albeit a little reluctantly, focused its energy and calmed its mind instead of retaliating with its own attack. ‘It was time for fighting, why wait? The sun is bright and the fires are hot!’

She gives a solemn nod to the swirlix, a motion thanking it again for helping her. More words were moot at this point, hopefully this spritzee understood what they were doing and why it needed to happen and didn’t complicate things. This snubbull was a difficult enough fight without any additional wrinkles.

The egg shook lightly in her pack, not exactly the best time to potentially welcome a new life, but Rei would just have to deal with that if it came to it.

Well while you guys were thinking, the other wild Pokemon would keep up with attacking the Snubbull. In their defense too, typically Pokemon they put to sleep would wake up still swinging if something wasn't done about it... and they really didn't just want to run away- as tempting as that was.

The Snubbull on the other hand, snored slightly as it collapsed to the ground and took another Flamethrower in it's forced slumber. It seemed solidly out of it for now.
