Rei Asakura.
THE TENACIOUS POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
Twenty-three. | Female. | Plasma | Restaraunt Owner and Student (Former) |
APPEARANCE
Rei stands at 5’2”, weighs about 125lbs and is of a slight build. She has cold, violet eyes that light with malice when she enters battle and light blue hair that falls to around her collar when let down. When travelling she is most commonly seen wearing a black shirt, long-sleeved jean jacket, tan pants, and dark brown calf length boots. She also keeps her late mother’s dragon tamer’s cloak, but is reluctant to wear it without great need because of what it symbolizes.
PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - Tenacious - Quick-Witted - Incredibly Disciplined - Intelligent - Protector NEGATIVE - Hard-Hearted - Commanding - Slow to Forgive - Stubborn - Sadistic | Rei is a very tenacious person, as many of the people in Anrui must be to survive. She is cold and severe to those she believes are wasting her time and is generally distrusting of newcomers. Growing up under the draconian eyes and heavy hand of her mother, she is very disciplined and has little patience for those that aren’t as rigorous as she is. That being said if she sees someone who is trying their best, she will do what she can to aid them, they just might not always like the tough love she gives. If someone wrongs her, she will not forget it and, most certainly, will not forgive until a fitting punishment has been brought upon her offender. If she fights, it with every fiber of her being. She was taught that fighting should be one’s last resort, but if it is taken, make sure you won’t have to again. |
BACKGROUND
Rei was born in Saffron City, Kanto to a rather unlikely couple. Her father, Akira, was a doctor and practiced there in Saffron. Her mother, Emi, was a Dragon tamer from Blackthorn, Johto. Akira was a strict, but fair, parent and practically a single father since Emi was away so frequently. However, being a doctor, he worked long hours and this left Rei to figure many things out on her own.
Rei and her family lived in Saffron until she was 8 years of age when her father, interested in ROT, decided to relocate to Anrui, just shortly after the forming of Plasma.
Upon having her pokémon confiscated and learning that training was illegal in Anrui, Emi begrudgingly assumed the role of primary ‘caregiver’ to Rei while she studied medicine to assist her husband. When Emi learned how lackadaisical her daughters rearing had truly been she set about to correct the situation at once. Her mother’s methods were intense, but admittedly effective in the quickly becoming war-torn region. If Rei got into a fight at school, she’d better have gotten into it for good reason and she’d better have won. If she got into a fight needlessly, or if she lost, she was punished for it by her mother. As Rei grew, she became a very cold, but incredibly disciplined and self-reliant, teen.
When she turned 16, Rei began to work as a cook for a local restaurant. Having cooked most of her family’s meals since she was 10, she adapted and even excelled in a commercial food environment. It did not, however, please her parents, who wanted her to stop wasting her time on a dead-end profession and study medicine like they did. She refused, knowing a medical profession would likely lead to her getting directly involved in the war. She was then kicked out of her parents’ house, ‘Since you’re old enough to make your own decisions about your future, you can do them under your own roof.’
For 2 years she did just that. She went to work, barked orders to her fellow chefs and made sure things ran like clockwork. Then the Resistance bombed St. Jaspers, killing both of her parents. This did 2 things to Rei. First, it gave her the money to start her own restaurant, The Dynasty. Secondly, it pushed her into studying medicine like her parents wanted.
Doing double duty running a business and being a student was quite the strain, but through diligence she managed it. By day, The Dynasty was kept stocked, the workers were kept in line, and her restaurant’s reputation grew. By night, she crammed medical knowledge into her head so she could eventually be an effective medic.
Then, one day, there was fighting in the streets as the Resistance attempted to ruin Rei’s life again by taking over the city. It was 2 years of absolute hell. Food was hard to come by and she wound up having to seriously scale back her operation. What remained of her inheritance was drying up keeping things going, but she had a duty to her employees. If she went under, so did they. When the riots started to take back the city, she was among their number.
Then broke the numel’s back. One night, as she was closing up The Dynasty, 2 men entered, asking for donations for the Resistance. After being told pointedly to leave, they sent out pokémon to intimidate her. After refusing to back down, one of the men had his rockruff attack her while his partner started torching the place. After killing the beast with a kitchen knife, she did her best to make sure her workers were clear of the building before it fell to the ground in smoke. The Resistance has taken everything from her. It is time to fight back.
