Ashley had wanted to do so much after visiting Ava Labs, even if she hadn't made a concrete plan she knew she wanted to get right into things. With how late it was when she'd actually finished getting her starter, even her minimal plans had to change. So instead of rushing into things, for one of the first times ever, Ashley instead spent the night in a cheap hotel - honestly one of the first places she came across once she was back in Hyo City. Sure, she could've found somewhere to camp out for the night - but with all of the patrols around Hyo that wasn't one of the best ideas. Also, she had wanted to introduce herself to whatever starter she'd ending up choosing - and without knowing how big they were going to be, it was probably best to be somewhere a bit more private anyway. Not that she'd actually needed to worry about the size of her new partner, or at least she hadn't needed to worry in the way she assumed. She'd expected something pretty big, or at least a Pokemon as strong as she saw herself, but instead she was greeted by one of the smallest Pokemon in existence. Added to that, she almost lost the electric-type instantly when he decided to scurry off under the hotel bed. Luckily it didn't take too long to find him again, attached to one of the outlets along the wall. She wasn't upset about the Pokemon partner she now found herself with, but it was probably proof that she really should've checked what her options were - instead of grabbing at random due to her own impatience. She had woken up early without even meaning to, and spent the first part of the morning trying to retrieve Corn the Joltik from under the bed once again. Her first destination had been a local gas station, in order to buy a cheap portable charger for the electric-type to feed on. She didn't have her own device to put any other use to the charger, but maybe it was time she thought about getting one. And now here she was, walking along by the Hyo City harbour with Corn sat happily in her jacket pocket. Due to the Joltik's small size, she didn't feel too worried about him being outside of his pokeball - as long as he actually stayed in her pocket with the power bank or hidden under the fabric of her jacket. Honestly, she didn't know what she was looking for. Honestly it was probably a good idea to search for some Pokemon to build up her team, and also get to know Corn a bit more. But if she ran across something else, like a fellow Resistance member or general trouble, well that didn't seem like a terrible idea to her either - although her overall reaction would vary based on who or what she met.

Well, not knowing what you're looking for is... the first step to knowing what you're looking for? Either way, as you move along the, frankly, incredibly smelly part of the polluted harbor that is Anrui's Hyo coast, there isn't much to notice. The usual going ons, such as workers heading to the docks to start their stinky day doing stinky cargo labor, and the occasional Rattata scurrying away from anything that might even be remotely alive.

Corn, thankfully, was also invisible to anyone looking at you, so the worst you got were distant looks from occasional workers. If you keep on walking though, you'll eventually come across a commotion.

Hidden away from dock view you'd see a Wooper, sitting up on a dumpster, drool dribbling down at an obscene rate onto a Glameow that was just trying to eat it's most recent haul of garbage.

The Glameow was drenched, and looked like it just wanted to die while the Wooper was completely oblivious to all going ons around it, not a single thought behind it's eyes as it stared straight ahead at some graffiti of a Quagsire...

Perhaps it was dreaming of what it COULD be some day...

There's no way of knowing for sure.

Ashley didn’t attract too much attention walking along the harbor. Sure there was the occasional look from one of the workers, but it was nothing she would have to worry about - if she was even worried to begin with. Maybe part of the reason gazes occasionally landed on her was just because she seemed almost unbothered by the smell coming from the polluted waters of Hyo’s coast - sure it wasn’t great but it wasn’t the worst odour she’d come across in her eighteen years of life. It was a lot easier to ignore than being in an enclosed space like the lab. During her walk, Ashley had honestly seen a few Pokemon - mainly Rattata scurrying around. They were far too out in the open to try and catch right now, and added to that she wasn’t sure she wanted to catch one anyway - she definitely had memories of having to chase a few away from farm produce back at home. It would definitely be interesting if she ever came across one of those specific ones during her travels around Anrui. Movement in the corner of her vision grabbed Ashley’s attention, causing her to slow down. She saw the Wooper first, the water-type clearly distracted by something. With how hidden the dumpster it was sat on was from the dock, maybe this would be an easier catch - or just a good training session for Corn. Ashley quickly slipped out of dock view herself, although she honestly didn’t check to see if anyone was watching her do it. It wasn’t until she was closer that she noticed the drenched Glameow, by which point the feline had also noticed her. The two of them stood still for a few seconds - the Glameow probably trying to weigh up the choices of ignoring Ashley and returning to the garbage meal, or running into a nearby hiding spot. When yet more drool landed on the feline’s head, the normal-type jumped and rushed underneath one of the nearby dumpsters. It made up Ashley’s mind quickly of what her next move would be. If she still needed to she could search for the Glameow, but she would probably forget to in all honesty. With a slow movement, Ashley put her hand into her pocket to get Corn’s attention - and felt the Joltik scuttle onto her hand and up her arm slightly. ”Corn, use Absorn on that Wooper - try not to be noticed.” Hopefully the water-type would continue to be distracted by the graffiti. The Joltik moved quickly, but not as quickly as it had when it went missing in the hotel room - making his way across the trash and up the side of the dumpster. Once close enough, Corn bit into the Wooper’s tail to absorb some of its energy. Even if there had been no thoughts behind the eyes of the Wooper before, it did have a reaction to being bitten - shaking its tail to stop the pain and get the bug-type off of its tail. It was an inventive use of the Tail Whip attack - and while Corn tried to stay attached, he eventually lost grip and slid a short distance across the dumpster lid.

Before Corn could move to attack again, or even get his bearings together to get out of the way, the Wooper shot a Water Gun at him. Well, it was a mixture of Water Gun and drool in honesty. There wasn’t really a strategy to the Wooper’s attacks, mainly just a reaction without thought to back it up. Corn was knocked backwards, falling with a soft thud into the trash on the floor below. He tried to shake himself dry, not that it worked too well, and let out a slight chirp like Pokemon cry. It wasn’t really any attempt at communication with the water-type, mainly just a slight noise of pain and annoyance for being knocked back down to the floor. A small amount of the water pooled around Ashley’s feet, there was probably a blocked drain nearby stopping it from draining away quick enough. Not that Ashley minded, she didn’t even try to step out of the slight puddle. Instead, she reached into her bag and pulled out an empty Pokeball. Corn was trying to climb back up onto the dumpster, struggling slightly to get a good grip due to its not drenched feet, but hopefully the Joltik wouldn’t need to do another attack. ”You did great Corn. Get back over here, okay.” Ashley looked down at the sphere in her hand for only a second, before throwing it at the Wooper - who hopefully hadn’t properly noticed her after being distracted by Corn.

Ashley watched as the Pokeball gently bounced off of the Wooper's head, successfully capturing the water-type within only a few shakes. The Pokeball only stayed on the dumpster lid for a second or two before rolling off into one of the piles of trash below. It was at this moment that it dawned on Ashley - this was her first every capture, in fact it was her first ever Pokemon battle and she hadn't really noticed it until now. She actually felt pretty proud of herself, not that she had any worries about it going wrong. It was a new feeling, being in a Pokemon battle alongside Corn. Sure she'd been in fights before, but that had been alone - it was nothing like this. Ashley made her way over to Corn first, who was still shaking off some of the excess water from his fur. He didn't look too happy to be soaking wet, and when Ashley picked him up he quickly scuttled into her jacket to dry himself off against the fabric. Hopefully by the time he made his way back to the portable charger in her pocket he was dry enough. For now she could just ignore him and let him crawl around hidden from view. The next task was picking up the Pokeball for her new teammate, the Wooper she'd just caught. As Ashley picked it up, she wiped it off with a sleeve. It had gotten slightly wet from whatever water still remained from the water gun and had also picked up some general dirt from the surrounding trash. As far as Ashley was aware, she was still the only one in this area - and it was relatively hidden from view. So it was because of that knowledge, she felt safe enough to introduce herself to the water-type. It probably would have been smarter to actually check around first, or to wait until they were somewhere else, but Ashley was fine with just assuming it was safe - she could probably handle any trouble that came her way anyway. She pressed the small button on the front of the Pokeball, letting the Wooper out into the open once again. "Welcome to the team little guy." Ashley held out a hand to the Wooper, like she was waiting for him to decided it he wanted head pats or not. The only response she got at first was a blank smile, before the water-type leant forward to gently bite her fingers - dribbling less now but still a noticeable amount. Honestly Ashley couldn't help but let out a quiet laugh, pulling her hand away and wiping it off on her trousers. Sure she had two Pokemon that weren't exactly what she was initially looking for, but they were still her teammates so she couldn't really be mad about it. "Nice to meet you too... Bean." The name honestly just seemed to fit, and Ashley was hoping the smile from the Wooper meant he liked the name too. Either that or it was because he'd just spotted the Quagsire graffiti once again - and was staring up at it in awe. "That'll be you one day Bean, now come on - let's get going." She gently patted the water-type's head, returning him to his Pokeball. Sure it had been a really quick introduction, and she would have loved to let Bean walk alongside her like Corn, but he was a lot more noticeable and couldn't be hidden as easily.
