ATLAS THEÓDOROS NOMIKOS.
THE DETECTIVE POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
TWENTY THREE. | CIS MALE. | PLASMA. | DETECTIVE. |
APPEARANCE
If Atlas never had to work a day in his life, his hair would extend far past his shoulder blades, his body would be covered with tattoos, and he’d be wearing only the minimal amount of clothing deemed socially necessary in any given situation. But alas, Atlas does indeed work - he works hard - and in his profession, you must look the part if you are going to rise to the top of the food chain.
As such, he has the appearance of being extremely put together. On the surface, the features that stand out the most are his hair and his eyes. With stark white hair, he boasts an undercut with a part that is supposed to be down the middle, although it tends to gravitate to the side when he’s stressed due to how often he runs his fingers through it. His eyes, which are naturally a bluish-grey, are masked by bright, golden contacts. He has a chiseled facial structure, with a strong nose and an even stronger jawline, and he often wears a scowl on his face. He finds that appearing as though he is already annoyed is the key to encouraging people to actively attempt not to annoy him any further.
He’s 6’2”, and weighs in around 182 lbs, give or take a few on any given day. His body is well-muscled, which he owes to a strict diet and workout routine that he’s been maintaining since his late teens. He’s got various knicks and scars about his body, most of them small. He earned a lot of them during his childhood, but he also earned a fair share of them from his current occupation as well. More often than not, he is dressed professionally - button-downs, slacks, ties - although even on his days off you’ll only find him in a tshirt and shorts if he’s working out. If he’s not working, he’s either barely clothed (in his apartment), or wearing what would be described as “smart casual” (out and about).
If we dive a little deeper below the surface, you’ll find some more hints towards a more expressive side of Atlas. He has a unique set of accessories, from a golden choker to various skull-themed items, such as belt buckles and tie clips. His nails are occasionally painted black or purple. He has several tattoos across his body, all of which are easily hidden by his clothing - on his chest is a large Memento Mori tattoo, complete with a skull positioned between the words; on the inside of his right forearm is a simply-drawn staryu, stylized as a cowboy; finally on his left inner thigh is a tat of an extensive McDonald’s receipt. To complete the look, he also has several piercings (including both nips); luckily, he got most of them years ago and can remove them as needed for work.

PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - logical - decisive - disciplined - protective - multifaceted NEGATIVE - avoidant - arrogant - critical - stubborn - reticent | Just as with how he presents himself physically, Atlas shows only one side of himself to those he works alongside, while those he’s grown personally close to will get to see all sides of him. Atlas is a clear-minded and clever individual. Contemplative and practical, he rarely hurries into decisions, but prefers to remain several steps ahead of whatever situation he’s found himself in. He doesn’t always share these steps with those he’s around, however, which sometimes gives the impression of acting drastically. Additionally, his efficient but quiet nature can also lead to a healthy serving of impatience while others question his decisions, or while he waits for others to work through whatever problem is at hand. Nonetheless, he is resourceful, and more often than not makes thought-out, intelligent decisions. He’s a dedicated and hardworking man who completes objectives - be it at work or at home - in a methodical fashion, wasting no steps nor time. If he can kill two birds with one stone, he will absolutely take the opportunity to do so. Of course, his convictions lead him to come across as rather arrogant and critical at times. He believes that if a decision comes logically, that it is the right decision regardless of outcome. In order to convince him otherwise, you would need to out-logic him, and sometimes his own stubbornness gets in the way of him acknowledging that he may have been incorrect, or made a wrong decision somewhere along the way. Despite the pride he takes in remaining calm and collected, there is a part of him that he prefers not to acknowledge and, frankly, has trouble controlling - one that his coworkers rarely see. It’s the part of him that encourages getting a tattoo of a McDonald’s receipt on your thigh, or piercing your nips on a whim. It’s the part of him that allowed him to move to Eve City by himself, ultimately against the wishes of his family. That’s right - he’s got a bit of a wild side to him! His coworkers might catch glimpses of it when he throws himself into a dangerous situation, or when he raises his voice to a superior. He’s adrenaline seeking and strong-willed, and while it blocks some of his self-preservation, it’s what allows him to best stand up for and protect those who he believes are in need. Finally, Atlas would rather stab himself in the foot than talk about something that makes him feel awkward. Get into a knife fight with a criminal? Sure. Uproot his entire life and live on his own? Absolutely. Talk about his feelings? Hell no - anything but that. Avoidant to a fault, Atlas wishes more than anything that he never had a Single Emotion in his Life, and likes to pretend that’s the case. |
BACKGROUND
cw: postpartum depression, mental health problems, and adoption.
Atlas was born on Lesca Island to two unmarried partners in crime, both active members of the Resistance. His mother took a break from their missions when she found that she was pregnant, however his father continued to work throughout the nine months. As Atlas’ expected date of arrival approached, his father’s calls began to dwindle until they eventually stopped. He did not return to Lesca on the date that he had said that he would, and he was registered as a missing person soon after.
Of course, his absent status did not delay Atlas’ birth, and he entered the world right on time. Unfortunately, along with the newborn came a significant dose of postpartum depression. His mother’s mental health deteriorated as she struggled to take care of the baby on her own while also coming to terms with the fact that the child’s father had likely passed away. Could he have died on a mission? Would he have lived if she had been there with him? Or, what if he was still alive? Which was worse? The thoughts consumed her, and as Atlas grew bigger and bigger, her mental health sunk lower and lower.
Atlas is unsure whether or not he was taken from his mother, or if she willingly put him up for adoption, and he doesn’t plan on asking anytime soon. At three years old, he was adopted by a man named Titus Pyralis Brennke, although upon stumbling over the name with his toddler tongue, he was quickly informed that “Brick” would do just fine. Atlas was young enough that he doesn’t exactly remember a time where he wasn’t living with Brick, but he does have vague memories from the transition period - things like being afraid to spend his first night in his room alone, and being shown where the property lines were outside.
Atlas had a relatively normal upbringing otherwise. Living on Lesca Island, he was fed large doses of Resistance propaganda from a young age. He attended public school, and participated in extracurriculars throughout his youth. He did occasionally get into fights with other kids, but it was more often caused by a sense of justice rather than trying to get in trouble. His adopted father was the leader of the Sun’s Gate, a cult stationed on Lesca Island who worshipped Entei above all other legendaries. As the leader’s son (adopted or not), he was heavily involved in their rituals any time a person his age was required, and he also got the unique perspective of getting to attend various closed meetings with his father.
Brick never attempted to make it a secret that he had adopted Atlas, but it wasn’t something that they spoke about often. Anytime that it was brought up, Atlas did his best to change the conversation, always finding it rather awkward to talk about. It wasn’t until his early teens that he learned who exactly his birth mother was (a member of Sun’s Gate as well), and why she had been unable to care for him. Despite now having the knowledge needed to reach out to her, Atlas instead avoided her. While he couldn’t quite articulate it, a large part of him felt that he wasn’t worth speaking to her; the way that his youthful brain interpreted the situation was that her mourning of his father had been more important than his upbringing, a thought that planted the idea that if he could find his birth father, perhaps he’d be worth something in his mother’s eyes.
This seed, watered by the need to figure out where exactly he belonged in the world, eventually bloomed into an interest in detective work. After he finished high school, he made what appeared to be a drastic decision to leave Lesca Island to attend a college in Eve City, majoring in criminal justice. He graduated within the last year, and has since been trying to find some private work. Not having yet found success in the private sector, he recently came to the decision to apply for Plasma’s Missing Persons Department, despite his Lesca Island upbringing.
He has an interview with Antoinette scheduled for later this week.
