ZHISONG “YUNJIE” ZHONG
THE VINDICATED POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
THIRTY-NINE | MALE | RESISTANCE | MERCENARY |
APPEARANCE
a man with an extremely imposing aura. he stands at a solid six foot four and weighs two hundred and twenty four pounds, body sturdy with lean muscle thanks to years of intensive training. he matches the typical image of men in his family, tall ( while he isn't exactly built like a brick wall like this father ) with tanned skin. his hair is a striking black, usually kept short and swept back. he has a striking gaze that matches the rest of his sharp features, eyes a vivid and deep red. usually, yunjie wears a mask that covers the lower half of his face to conceal the scars that riddle his face. as for the rest of his body, it's equally covered in scars.
due to an incident in his past, several parts of his body, as in his right arm, forearm, and leg are now cybernetics. they can function partially in the same way his limbs did previously, and they are susceptible to the elements ( extreme or otherwise ) as any piece of machinery would. aesthetic wise, they are primarily dark grey and black with red accents. to keep them from overheating, a cooling system through wires is kept running at all times.
he does little to conceal this beneath his clothes. but his usual fashion typically consists of traditional clothing such as hakama, as he prefers to keep his clothing loose. color-wise, they range from black to grey to dark blue on any given day.

PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - SOFT-HEARTED - DEDICATED - HONEST - PROTECTIVE - OBSERVANT NEGATIVE - COLD - AUSTERE - RECLUSIVE - EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE - LONELY | yunjie is a man of an austere nature, keeping a rigid schedule with almost everything he does. he is painfully uptight, making sure that even the simplest of daily routines is kept in line. that is perhaps the most noticeable thing if you were to spend a day with him. frigid to others, he easily comes off as distant and uncaring. when pushed to anger, there is little room for mercy. as of late, however, he struggles with the morality of his actions. though he is brutal in his line of work, he has never raised a hand to anyone close to him. which is a rarity, considering the amount of people he keeps within his circle. little to none. it is hard for him to form close relationships, due to the mindset of "duty before everything" being drilled consistently into his mind. it is hard to pull yunjie from something once he has set himself on a path. and he tends to observe any and all surroundings around him, at all times. it is a must for him to be perceptive of where he is, who he is with, and what may be hiding. he is reclusive more often than not. but while he enjoys being the peace that comes with being solitary, it is common for him to feel incredibly lonely with the silence that surrounds him. there is no drive to resolve this, however. to him, it is an emotion that he must learn to suffer through. while he has always been protective due to the nature of his job, after his recovery he found that he developed a more... soft-hearted side to himself. yunjie will hesitate, but he is not one to turn a blind eye to those in need. provided that he finds it necessary and not something that would bar him from completing a task. he likes cute things. |
BACKGROUND
the arrangement for a child between chinxi and bohai was not something that was expertly planned. chinxi, a dragon trainer from blackthorn, was a woman not so necessarily worried about the concept of marriage, children, starting a family. while bohai himself, a bodyguard knee-deep within the life of criminality, was simply looking for an heir to take his place. neither of them were focused on the hows and whys of their mutual agreement, but they saw this as a means to an end. and once chinxi gave birth to a son, she left him and his father to their own devices.
his life was nothing but training from a young age, around when he turned four. bohai was determined to raise zhisong as he had been- to make his son a formidable fighter, an intimidating foe, and a man who would command power wherever he went. his first and only son was to be the one that followed in his footsteps, and he would make it show.
zhisong was bound to subservience from the beginning, an entire life dedicated and laid out before him to a crime syndicate, one that dabbled in the dealings of dirty money and illegal drugs. he knew nothing else as a guardian-in-training to the man his father worked for, a man named jianyu. he ran a tight ship, unwilling to let things slip through the cracks of his regime. his methods were brutal, and he saw much of what his job exactly entailed the more time he spent shadowing him and his father. the zhong family and jianyu's gang had a long-standing agreement that went back generations. to protect their identities, they were often given cover names. zhisong adopted his once he turned sixteen- yunjie.
and when he turned nineteen, his father passed away as a result of an illness unknown to him. something that bohai had kept hidden from his son to keep yunjie from worrying over him. he had little time to mourn, yunjie was quickly placed in the role of guardian. he believed immensely so, that he could not fill the role of his father. he never could. yunjie distanced himself, emotionally. while he would continue to work physically, often his mind was elsewhere. just enough to continue his duty as best as he could, as he struggled to mourn.
his life continued on, bland and monotonous. yunjie had earned a reputation for himself as a man who did not discriminate in the punishments and hunts that jianyu gave him. he killed many, threatened many, and left plenty of people without hope and money to their name.
however, a passing glance caught his attention. at a lonely rundown bar, he spent the night chatting with a man named mirai about many things. while keeping secret about his own lifestyle, the two of them exchanged much about each other. they clicked rather fast, and as yunjie had never experienced a relationship before... it was a whirlwind.
they were married within three months.
but it did not last.
in his line of work, anyone is a liability. weaknesses can be exploited, exposed. used against you- and that's exactly what happened to mirai. it was a simple disagreement, between a man who wanted more money for a deal than jianyu wished to give him and yunjie, who had noticed this man was stepping too close and too far over the line. to prove a point to a young and "hot-headed" bodyguard, mirai was a target.
and he did not get time to mourn before his nose was once again, shoved to the grindstone.
yunjie forces himself back into work. and it continues on, as it always did. until another straw breaks the camels back. an arrow in the night comes fast, unexpected. there is no trace of a culprit, absolutely nothing but whispers on the wind and rumors of a deadly archer that seemed like more of a folktale rumor than anything else.
in the rush, jianyu's krookodile lashes out and goes for the first thing it sees in rage. which just so happens to be yunjie. the attack leaves him in shock, and while he manages to free himself of his grasp ( and unfortunately, takes the pokemon out in the process ) it renders him near-unable to use the limbs on the right side of his body.
but this simple act, the death of jianyu, the vicious attack, it completely uproots him and the gang beneath him. with a crumbling structure, many fight to take the spot of the man who once led a deadly gang.
he spends four year in the hospital, on and off in the later years as he recovers. thanks to a gracious anonymous benefactor, he receives cybernetics that allow him proper use of his arm and leg. it helps with the extensive physical therapy he is put through. during one of these hospital stays, a man named claude approaches him with an offer. to absolve him of his criminal past, he extends the possibility of coming back with him to a region called anrui.
provided that he joins a cause known as the resistance, of course.
yunjie, hesitant to accept, agrees as his time in the hospital provided him with much insight to his life and what he will do with the rest of it since he no longer has a purpose. but perhaps with this, he'll find something new.
