It's officially summer in Anrui, and the heat is here to prove it! Pokemon are out in droves, all trying to find some relief from the heat. Be careful - they're a little extra testy during heatwaves, and you don't want to get caught between them and some refreshing shade!
Welcome to the Anrui Region, where training is illegal. The Anrui Region is a desolate and lonely place, a once bustling region that has lived under the oppression of Team Plasma for many years. Plasma took over and outlawed training of Pokemon. Raids occurred and people and Pokemon alike were killed. Back alley gym matches were held, but people remain terrified to overthrow Plasma. Who will you side with, Plasma? Or The Resistance?
One of our most welcoming, loyal, and patient of members can be found in Bee - who has been a member for two years now! Always friendly and active in both OOC and IC spaces, Bee is often one of the first people that new members are greeted by and lends a face of familiarity and kindness to any of Anrui's frontiers. With immaculate detail to each masterfully crafted post he writes, as well as the memorable and relatable qualities of his lifelike characters, Bee is a joy to roleplay with and a treasure to Anrui. We're honored to spotlight Bee as our Member of the Month!
As hardened as she is fierce, Nell Stark is a wonderful example of when the extremities of Anrui's political climate are pushed too far on a breakable human mind. Protective of her ideals and morals to the point of defection, watching how Nell is portrayed adapting to the side of the enemy she was once factioned against through her front of snappy indifference is equally parts fascinating and ambiguous. We're happy to announce Nell Stark as our Character of the Month!
In our Thread of the Month oh, life is bigger, Desmond Winters has been in prison for a decade now for murder and procuring, having fully accepted his fate of rotting in the concrete box - that was, until Phoenix Delgado, head researcher of RIVER on the hunt for a new assistant intern, showed up one fateful afternoon. With Desmond's subpar interview skills and Phoenix's cutthroat choosiness, these two collide and find that the traits once considered to be undesirable by others in a professional setting somehow fit together like puzzle pieces.
"Women want me, fish fear me. As loud as it typically was, he had never grown used to the rush of noise - the absolute cacophony - that rushed to his head, every time he would catch small glimpses of ripples and mistakes within the fabricated realm which held him willingly captive. Glitches in the simulation during which the veil would be tattered, fluttering about in the winds of unknown change and what lied behind the wall. Welling inside of him, something was wrong. So entirely, entirely wrong; the same kind of wrong as when he was certain he had left the stove on, or hadn't locked his door. The same wrong that rendered the atmosphere dense and strange, though apparently invisible to his eyes. They had probably forgotten to have her change before being sent out to collect him. Or warn him. Or terrorize him." - Julian Miller, A[D]VERSARY

Zeus took a breath, deeper than most, as he sat off a few meters from the entrance to the Underground Cavern. One that was notorious for being riddled with traps, and one that caught Zeus's attention. With everything that was happening, distractions were a common political tactic. He had some concern that not only were Plasma out here doing something to instigate nature, he also had some concern that they were out here to fuck with Resistance "territory".
He sat against a rock, running his still living fingers over top of the worn bandages covering his prosthetic. He had been under a quite of bit of stress lately, but working through things with his loving husband and the man that his father now... dated. It was so odd to think about. His father, Osiris, who spent years pining after Daniel and has been through thick and thin with him... finally hooked up with him.
Zeus chuckled fondly, moving his hand to run his fingers through Azreal's fur. The call with the gang in the hospital had been one hell of a call. And as much as he'd love to sit and finally bask in the fact that his father had found love again after what is almost more than forty years at this point, he had a mission to do.

Pushing his self to his feet with his right arm, he felt the heavy, familiar weight pulling on him, even as he hooked his hand into his hoodie pocket to rest it. His usual, makeshift sling, feigning injury. Azreal stood with him as well, gracefully shaking her head, not yet sensing danger, but still always aware. It was just in her nature, after all.
A disaster sensing Pokemon like Absol was usually pretty good about keeping Zeus alerted while he slept, and the same goes for his X-ray eyes having Luxray that sat in his own, worn down ball. And she wasn't just a disaster sensing Pokemon. Zeus had been a partner with Azreal for some time now, and as they walked together, a familiar furry skull pushing against his hand grounded him. Just as the familiar, calloused hand on a furry head grounded Azreal.
She acted like the Queen she was, but even Queens enjoyed the company of a good, trusted friend. Especially if said Queen was stepping into a cavern full of few known mysteries such as this one. All Zeus did know was that he had asked if there were any traps of concern that needed to be checked while he was out checking on the wild life.
He had been shown where one specific trap was, so he had a mission. Check the trap, take out Plasma and calm the wild life should it be enraged. But this was Zeus, and things had a tendency to never be that easy.

He was well recovered by now, but even now, his right arm absently passes over the scar on his abdomen, his stomach feeling the hard press, even through clothes, rolling over the once incredibly tender area. It felt funny, and it also kept his arm occupied while he passed through the cave, eyes looking around for traps. An unreasonable part of him wasn't quite sure while he felt the need to occupy that arm, but the part of him that hadn't given up on his arm had told it to shut the hell up and that it was a part of him.
Resisting the urge to snort to his self in a laugh, Zeus stopped and looked around the cavern itself, pulling a flash light out to use a more direct light for certain nooks and crannies. The lanterns didn't cut it themselves, and Zeus wanted to make sure his dumbass didn't go and step into anything that was clearly a trap before he got to the place where he needed to find a trap.
Azreal padded alongside him quietly, her eyes looking around and seeing easily in the darkness that her kind often called home, watching much smaller Pokemon flit away from the people and the light of Zeus's flashlight. It almost made her homesick for the cave in the mountains she used to call home so long ago.
Shaking her head, she stopped only for a moment when she thought she saw something large in the corners of her eyes, Zeus halting beside her, but carried on after a moment.
Was considering either that a Plasma grunt after a wild spawn would have triggered the trap somehow. Whatever works though, I don't mind.

Zeus stopped in his tracks, flashlight turning off to favor the lamplight in the area, especially now that he could hear the sounds of feathers in the cave. Azreal made a soft sound, stepping behind Zeus to watch his back as the man turned a corner, spotting someone sitting on the ground, one leg drawn up and cradled.
The foot itself was at an odd angle, but that wasn't the only odd thing here. Why was there a Pelipper down here in the caves? Well, the answer was easy. It belonged to the man, and he could already pin several places that the Pelipper might have come from. Wingull being common, it was easy to clock that none of those places were this cave.
What he was trying to mentally say was 'this man doesn't belong here.' "You know... Usually whenever someone enters a cave, they bring Pokemon suited for it... not... a Pelipper." Zeus spoke with a smile, stepping towards the man, earning a posturing stance from the Pelipper.
"If you want your master to get help, you are best to get out of the way." He warned, Azreal purring out a warning behind him, eyes still watching the cave while her master handled this. But if the noise from the Pelipper meant anything, its that it wasn't going to move aside so easily.
"Suit yourself." Zeus's voice went flat, his left hand reaching to grab Chin-chi's ball, releasing the scarred Luxray.
A vicious warning growl had the Pelipper backing up, but only a little bit, while the owner finally found his words, commanding his Pelipper to get ready.

The Pelipper let out a cry, beak opening and wings flapping in a flustered manner, obviously unsure of how to move about in a cave like this in ways that didn't consist of hopping around on his webbed feet on hard rock. Anyone with a pair of eyes could see the Pelipper wouldn't be getting off the ground very well, so when it accepted there wouldn't be shit for maneuvering, the large bird simply picked up some rocks in it's mouth, moving them to the bottom of it's beak before blasting an "o" of water towards Zeus's Luxray.
Chin-chi, as if to taunt the Pelipper, waited until the last second and hopped to the side of the attack, watching as the Water Pulse slapped sadly against the stone of the tunnel walls. The lion gave it one annoyed look before turning towards the bird. It had nowhere to run, and Chin-chi knew that. The 'meh, do whatever' spoken to him in Zeus's mother tongue was also a free go ahead to fry this overgrown chicken.
Fur standing on in, the lion tensed and crouched down, a bright light filling the cavern as a thunderbolt shot towards the Pelipper, landing a direct hit and knocking it to the ground. The man on the ground flinched at the sudden flash, bringing his arm up to his face to guard against it, only to bring it down to the sight of his Pelipper knocked out on the ground.
Pelipper used stockpile Pelipper used Water Pulse Chin-chi Dodged Chin-chi used Thunderbolt Pelipper fucking exploded -160%

The man didn't seem to take all that long to recover from the fact his Pelipper had just been laid out and fried. He returned it and sent out a Sandslash in it's place, an odd sandslash at that. Zeus recognized it as Alolan and sighed, calling Chin-chi to his side with a whistle and tapping the back of his Absol's head, commanding Azreal to jump out in front of him while his lion took over her role, eyes staring into the darkness and round ears perked.
The man actually spoke back to Zeus in his own language, earning a grin and raised eyebrow from Zeus. 'That cat of yours hits pretty hard. You're not from around here, are you?' But it was apparent the man was looking for another reaction. His attempt to shock Zeus did nothing and he just shook his head instead, trying not to laugh. "Yes yes, I am from Johto. My mother from there, and my father from another continent, but you see, I can speak other languages just fine, so no need to pull that out on me."
Zeus wasn't here to make friends, he was now here to ask this man questions, but it could wait. The Sandslash bristled and jumped forward, slashing at Azreal and knocking her back, following through with a particularly nasty slash. His Pokemon fought on their own as well. Azreal didn't wait to retaliate, and showed the Sandslash that she knew her own tricks as well.
The queen of his team wasn't impressed at all, and if the amount of force she packed behind that Night Slash said anything, it was that she wasn't going to tolerate it's shit. Sandslash was sent out Luxray swapped out for Absol Azreal took Slash (-40% now at 60%) Sandslash took the Night Slash (-25% now at 75%)

Zeus gave the man a finger gun as he furrowed his brows. His Absol could fight on it's own as well. Literally anybody who had a dangerous job would usually train stronger Pokemon to fight on their own. They had seen a good amount of Pokemon types, and battled them as well. They were usually capable of knowing how to take down what on their own. Which is why Azreal was able to feel the Blizzard coming.
The pressure she applied on the Sandslash could be felt, and the blizzard was wasted as she jumped back and out of the sudden, rushing blizzard running across the small area they battled in. When it settled, Azreal's fur was as pristine as when she jumped out of it, and the only thing the snow had touched was the ground where it had rushed.
Instead of deigning to step in snow that was not freshly fallen from a natural source, Azreal welled up fire in her mouth. Both the man and the Sandslash seemed to jerk in surprise right as a column of fire rushed towards the opposing Pokemon. Not quite as strong as if Asahi were to use it, but still a powerful attack none the less.
Strong enough to knock the Sandslash back and leave it laying on the ground, face first and out cold. The man also returned this Pokemon, giving Zeus a somewhat wide eyed and somehow annoyed stare. "She's pretty when she's angry, isn't she?"
Azreal dodged Blizzard Sandslash was hit by Flamethrower (-90% KO)

Zeus recalled Azreal as the man was lifting up the last Pokeball on his belt, sending out a Slaking that chose to let out a simple, lazy yawn, even giving the massive hulking metal beast that appeared in front of him a lazy look. He... really looked like he didn't want to be there. Zeus could respect both Slakoth and Slaking for being the way they were.
He'd take naps all day if you let him as well. But knowing him, he'd probably go insane from boredom between naps. Get that itching in his limbs that told him he needed to move and expend energy before he snapped from the tension. Either way, Hagane settled on the ground, surprisingly making little to no noise, until a commanded Chip Away struck him in the face.
Instead of showing any pain though, the machine like Pokemon let out an annoyed grunt. "Heh. Psychic." Zeus commanded easily, his left hand pressing fingers into the large lion's fur behind him. Hagane warped the area around them as he concentrated a massive amount of psychic energy into a single burst towards the Slaking, actually managing to knock the Pokemon onto his back and cause him to.... just lay there. Relatively unmoving.
The ability Truant was a hell of a thing to watch, in action. The Slaking laid there, arms out, eyes mostly closed and seeming like he couldn't be bothered to do a damn thing about the spot he was caught up in. Instead, he just let out a long yawn, refusing to move from where he was.
And the owner certainly knew there was nothing to do about it either. He let out a long sigh with the yawn and laid his head back against the cave wall gently. This fight was probably a massive L with how this was going to go. Of course his hardest hitter and tankiest pokemon had to be one of the most notably lazy species to be discovered in this life time.
Why is Slaking so strong? He only sucks because of Truant. Slaking was sent out Azreal returned to ball Metagross sent out 2 can play at that game Metagross took Chip away (-15% now 85%) Metagross used Psychic (-30% now 70%)

The man seemed to be in full understanding of how his Slaking worked and that... made sense. Duh. The man had obviously been a trainer for a while, so when he commanded Amnesia with a heavy, yet quiet sigh, he knew that this would be the best that he could get out of the lazy ape. His Slaking scratched his belly, cheek still resting in palm, but this time, it seemed momentarily lost.
If not a bit confused. But by the end of it's confusion, re-assuming a lazy stare, he seemed a bit more focused. Zeus let out a huff and looked to his Metagross. "Light Screen, just in case, and give him a Meteor Mash." there would be absolutely no running from the Meteor mash, considering the Pokemon was a lazy, near unmoving target.
Hagane covered his self with a protective coating, following his own focus up with a powerful slam of his arm though. The Meteor Mash dug into his soft belly, actually causing the opposing Pokemon to let out a pained grunt. Looks like Hagane found the soft spot, granted it was a pretty easy find.
Zeus tilted his head back some, looking at the other guy who seemed to be staring back at him again, with a knowing look. "Ah, You've figured it out, haven't you?" It was very clear that this guy was Plasma to Zeus, and when he pulled his badge free and tossed it along the ground to Zeus, he let out a frustrated sigh.
"How about this, after we knock out your pokemon, if we listen to me, I'll walk you around with me rather than knock you out. I think both of our old bodies would appreciate that. Yes?"
slaking used amensia (+2SpDef) Light Defense 0/5 Meteor mash Crit (-50% now 20%)
