SOPHIE MOCHIZUKI.
THE UNINSPIRED POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
NINETEEN. | cis FEMALE. | NEUTRAL. | NEET. |
APPEARANCE
sophie is small and entirely unintimidating. her height capping out at about five foot even, and her weight coming in at around 180 pounds, she's often assumed to be soft and weak due to her outward appearance. this isn't entirely wrong; she's definitely not athletic, and even her expression is sleepy and uninterested the majority of the time.
within her round face, her eyes are a pastel pink, her nose is small and turned-up, her lips pouty, her skin pale and unmarred. her hair is a light, ashen pink-brown, with her bangs straight across her forehead, and the sides of it framing her face, curling up ever so slightly towards her chin, while the back of it splays outward, swooping up toward the sky. it's often quite messy, too, as she forgets to brush it. she sports dark bags under her eyes from many sleepless nights.
her sense of style is strictly casual. sophie often wears video game, tv show, or other media-related t-shirts of her favorite series or bands, topped off with an oversized cat-eared hoodie, along with shorts, high socks, and sneakers.

PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - Kind - Intelligent - Good-humored - Passionate - Courageous NEGATIVE - Lethargic, tired - Apathetic - Blunt, often unsociable - Lack of confidence - Forgetful, has ADHD | a single word can be used to summarize sophie's outward demeanor: sleepy. her expression is typically either tired or neutral, and she doesn't tend to take sides in many matters, instead choosing to observe. it's fully within her nature to zone out for hours at a time, dissociating so she doesn't have to deal with unpleasant stimuli. she's been running away from her feelings her whole life, in order to protect herself, and she's not about to start indulging in them now. despite that, she has her moments of consciousness in which it becomes apparent this apathy is more a learned response than her honest personality type. she gets very excited when she encounters her favorite things, often launching into a long-winded explanation to anyone who doesn't quite understand. she's impulsive and brash, and often says things without thinking. she has little experience socially, having been secluded and withdrawn from friends and family most of her life, and while she is oftentimes rather shy, she's still not afraid to speak her mind. or rather, she speaks her mind and then regrets it later as she realizes she maybe shouldn't have said what she said. deeper down, having played games and watched movies with heroic endeavors ever since she was a toddler, sophie is very interested in heroes. specifically, she wishes she could be one herself. she wants to help people, and do brave things in the face of danger, but with her low self esteem, she underestimates her capacity for such actions. she is, in fact, quite the courageous person, and she's the sort of girl who'd run into a fire to save someone inside. this is partially because of her upbringing primarily being done by a TV, and partially because she doesn't... really care about what happens to her. sophie is terrible at taking care of herself. she forgets to eat, forgets to brush her teeth and hair, and struggles to maintain a healthy sleep schedule. this is because growing up, she always thought it'd probably be better for everyone around her if she just disappeared. she never learned to care about herself, and thus, she can't care for herself. all in all, sophie is a sleepy, quiet, nerdy young woman who has the potential to do great things, if she could just get off her butt and do them. |
BACKGROUND
sophie was born to a man and a woman who grew to hate each other early in her life. her mother was only 17 when she was conceived, and she was just barely able to finish out high school before sophie was born. her grandparents basically forced her parents to stay together, and for the first three years, they thought they could make it work. sophie was a happy little girl then, though she doesn't have clear memories of these days. however, her father began seeing a woman behind her mother's back; when her mother found out finally, sophie was five. that was the end of those peaceful days.
they fought. all the time. sophie would cry, naturally, and then be shamed for it. she learned to hide her emotions, and hide herself in the realm of fiction, because reality was simply so cruel. her mother was strict, cold, and cruel, while her father was almost never around. when he did come home, he smelled of alcohol.
for the early parts of her life, sophie thought this was normal. she went to school and made friends, but they soon grew tired of her, and gradually they abandoned her. sophie didn't have the mental or emotional capacity to understand that this was simply something that happened to everyone. weren't friends supposed to stay by your side forever? depressed, and incredibly lonely, she allowed herself to fall even deeper into her fictional interests. she particularly enjoyed video games, and she was pretty good at them, too. she'd neglect her school work in order to play games, or watch TV, or do anything that kept her from thinking about reality. her grades dropped, her mother yelled at her about how stupid she was, sophie was even less motivated to go to school, and the cycle continued.
she was held back several times. the abuse continued. gradually, sophie stopped attending school at all. she shut herself inside her room, hiding herself away from the rest of the world. it was like this for two years when her mother finally had enough, and kicked her out of the house with barely any money or supplies at all. "go make something of yourself," her mother told her, "because i'm done caring for someone as useless as you."
so, here sophie is, alone in the world, with only a portable game console, her meager savings, and nobody to help her figure out what she's supposed to do with her life. as she's been seeing more and more of the outside world, she's been realizing just how screwed up it all is. but she hasn't really made a firm decision yet on whether she wants to fight, or adapt. perhaps meeting someone new, human or pokemon, will change that?
