YARA NICHOLE RIGGS.
THE PASSIVE POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
TWENTY-TWO | FEMALE | NEUTRAL | JANITOR |
Yara is 5’ 8.5” tall and is more leg than torso. She weighs in at a light, toned weight of 123lbs and looks like she could serve to gain some weight. She has grey-blue eyes and sharp, angular features that make up the home of her apathetic and generally disinterested expressions. When she is not on the clock, Yara generally wears raggedy jeans, thrifted t-shirts and other secondhand clothes she has acquired. One of her most favorite articles of clothing is a ragged black hoodie that says “edgy veggie” on the front.
Yara is generally not one to wear makeup as it is an added expense, she doesn’t have money for, but if she does have it around its thick black eyeliner and gummy mascara because its six months too old. Because she doesn’t get to the laundry mat regularly her clothes do have a bit of a low-class grunge. When she goes to the run-down dojo, she takes her beat up bokken with her. There is a cling of old cigarette smoke as she has a habit of picking out old cigarette butts from ash trays to help curb her nicotine addiction. The one beauty aspect that Yara pays attention to is maintaining the purple color of her hair, her hair is down to her low back and she keeps the bangs long to obscure her face.

PERSONALITY
-POSITIVE -PROCEDURAL -PERCEPTIVE -COMPETITIVE -QUIET -RESOURCEFUL -NEGATIVE -BROODY -APATHETIC -DEPENDENT -ANXIOUS -PERFECTIONIST | Yara was a confounding situation as she was growing up because she was keen and resourceful in her work but when she struggled, or things did not go as she anticipated it to, she broke down. In doing so she gave up because it was easier to be avoidant rather than struggle for success. Not having the proper support system, she was left to flounder when those who tried to invest energy into her could not break through her walls. Yara is a perfectionist who holds herself to such significant standards because of her abandonment that it becomes too much and she has stayed in a state of apathetic acceptance that she is meant to never succeed, nor does she deserve the rewards that success would bring because she is undeserving of those provisions. Kendo is the one skill she has developed and has focused on advancing it for no reason beyond a constructive obsession. When Yara has the proper motivation or investment she can be particularly competitive, however, the struggle is getting her motivated which has not presented itself as frequently occurring. Daily, Yara struggles with the results of her anxiety and the depression with it. She maintains a low-level job that does not require a high level of performance or emotional exertion, one coping mechanism for her anxiety is nicotine, when she goes into withdrawals, she’s highly irritable and removes from all contact. To avoid this, Yara is not below rummaging in ash trays and the ground to find usable cigarette butts if she does not have a pack on her. Yara is at her best performance in an environment that provides structure, which is why she has taken to kendo and why, even though she is rather independent she prefers the janitorial work because she has built a structure and routine to be productive. /td] |
Yara was born into the foster system by a mother who was strung out on drugs and a father who was serving time in prison for smuggling cocaine through the boarders of Anrui. Being born severely drug exposed, Yara was a high need and high-risk baby that most of the foster families didn’t know how to handle and she was bounced around for the first six months of her life. She eventually was placed in a home with a stable family and she lived with them for three years while they tried to adopt her but near the end of the process Yara’s mother met all of the legal semantics and Yara was taken from the family she knew and put back in the run down home with her mom. Yara was not cared for by her mother, being neglected when she was off messing around and getting high. Yara was a benefit check and that was it.
Once Yara was old enough to go to school she was drastically behind her age group. As she aged, it was always a struggle and because of her grungy appearance and unpleasant demeanor she didn’t connect much with her classmates. There were the occasional teachers that tried to help her succeed but learned that it was ultimately a futile attempt. When Yara hit middle school, she began running away and skipping classes, sometimes being gone for a couple of weeks as she walked through the ragged streets of Hyo and the routes beyond.
She kept going back home and getting the same welcome of a beating and punishment from her mom and the current boyfriends that took it upon themselves to try and assert a father role by beating an unruly kid into submission. At the age of 17, Yara left home and never came back. Having progressed deeper and deeper into her depressive hole she was homeless for two years, floating from homeless gang to homeless corner to keep herself afloat until she mustered the gumption to connect with one of the homeless supports and was plugged into working rudimentary jobs that her drop out-no GED education afforded her.
She lost a fair number of jobs from the cumulative stresses of the high paced energy and demands of the environment as her anxiety made her unreliable at the best of times. Her self-destructive and apathetic tendencies sinking her the rest of the way into the unemployment cycle until she came across the run-down dojo in Ansen Valley on one of her random treks. The dojo master recognized a familiar troubled spirit and took her under his wing, instructing her gruffly but firmly. Through the training and practice of Kendo she was able to piece some of her shit together and make a connection with her current employer at the Battle Arena where she works as a janitor. The boss and employee relationship have a mutual understanding and empathy for her circumstances and they acknowledge on her bad days that her work would be made up when she came in to maintain the facilities. She has no aspirations for the future, no motivation to be anything more than surviving her current circumstances. She has a job she can be secure in and a small place to rest her head, with the world going to shit—what more could she ask for?
