The river's waves broke on the shore, just a few yards to her right. She could barely hear the roar of the current, however, as the crowd around her was much too loud, drunkenly shouting words of encouragement to the two trainers facing each other. In front of her, her axew, Therru, was putting on quite the show, having just been tackled by the opponent's pokemon. The small dragon was moaning, wobbling back and forth on what appeared to be shaky legs, and putting up every act to appear as though she were badly hurt. To Kaida's left sat two eggs, nestled into the sand, their gleaming shells warmed by the sun and the beach, while simultaneously being cooled by the river breeze, a near perfect incubation combination.[break][break]

The two eggs, which were kept quite close to Kaida's feet in order to discourage anyone who might try to run off with one, no doubt helped to create the facade that she was attempting to pull over these onlookers. She had bet money - exactly one dollar - on this battle, and she was quite obviously "losing," and making a fool of herself no doubt. She had done this several times already today, to several different sun-kissed crowds, with the aim to get people talking about her. Then, when she was sure that she'd drawn the most people in, the plan was to use Chihiro to place a larger wager, and win more than she had lost back.[break][break]

Almost - almost - as though it was choreographed, Kaida and Therru's right arms lifted to prop the back of their hand/claw onto their forehead, a gasp escaping their mouths. Then, with a loud 'oomph,' Therru fell to the ground. Before anyone could tell that the dragon had barely been scratched, and had just laid down dramatically, Kaida returned her to her pokeball. "Oh!" she shouted, "Oh, my poor axew! I had no idea you were so strong. You win this one!" Taking a moment for her fingers to linger, Kaida removed her wallet from the pocket of her cutoffs, and took out a dollar. "Here you go! Certainly, though, I'm sure that no one here can beat my horsea - not even you," she stated as she handed the dollar over. "In fact... I'd be willing to bet $20 on it!"

Zeus, was incredibly bored. Unbelievably bored. He was in his swimming trunks, his arm wrapped up tight, as well as the upper part of his chest, concealing all of his fake arm like he always did. He'd just rather people think he has some horrendous injury or scarring he doesn't want people to see. Or even a wiener tattoo. It's better than being confirmed a prosthetic. He lolled his head back and forth, leaning against a tree, with his Metang low to the ground. For now. He heard the drunken yelling, and then heard someone challenging people to beat a horsea and... oh well... Zeus was a malicious person when he wanted to be, loving some other times and a massive troll other times. Putting Hagane away and shushing nothing, he stepped out and walked over to the young woman, feigning total innocence. "I'll battle you." He started off with, letting out his Mudkip to sit next to his feet. Very young and goofy, she was obviously an inexperienced Pokemon, reaching up to kick at her cheek with her hind leg like a dog.

It wasn't long before Kaida's horsea had absolutely nailed the opponent. All day, she had been showing off her weaker pokemon, and she had to admit that several of them were pretty good actors. Some weren't as good as others, but she had briefed them before arriving at the party of the plan, so at the very least they all knew to pretend that they had feinted rather quickly. There was no doubt that Therru was the best actor of them all, but she supposed she was the most happy with Chihiro's performance. The small water-type had always been rather serious, and Kaida knew that she wouldn't be able to convince her to pretend to feint. However, after what had happened several years ago in Antoinette's office, where she had destroyed all trust the horsea had in her, she was just happy that the pokemon was listening to her again. After her failed attempt at breaking Haku out of the Zoo during the riots, Chihiro must have realized that the struggle Kaida had found herself in of pretending to be a Plasma member was more complicated that she had originally thought. If they were ever going to successfully break Haku out of the Zoo, she needed her team to be strong, and to listen, and as the leader of that team, Chihiro was beginning to understand that as well.[break][break]

So, when Kaida had commanded the horsea to bubblebeam the opponent's pokemon into the sand, she did as she was told, and Kaida collected the twenty dollars - more than the total that she had lost - and was on her merry way as the crowd dispersed, some realizing that they had been swindled while others were simply growing bored with watching her battle.[break][break]

As she pocketed the cash and bent down to pick up her eggs, a man walked up to her and challenged her to battle. Kaida didn't get a good look at him. With everything going on, there was much too much happening around her for her to focus on just the man's face, on top of the fact that she had not expected to meet anyone here who she knew. He released a mudkip at his side, who batted at her own head with her foot as she waited. Kaida smiled down at the pokemon as she considered the challenge. [break][break]

The cat was out of the bag now - might as well stop pretending. Besides, a man with a mudkip that small? She could take him. "Alright, how much you-" it was then that her speech was cut off by a large cracking sound coming from an egg in her arms. At first, she froze, not entirely processing what it was that was happening. After a second or two, however, her brain went into overdrive, like a dam bursting and spilling over with water. Crouching, she gently laid the two eggs back into the sand and watched as a small, electric blue gible emerged from one, while the other wiggled in the sand. [break][break]

Helping to clear away the bits and pieces of the shell that was scattered around, Kaida smiled as the baby gible wiggled out of the shell and into her lap. "Yea, yea, I'll battle you, just give me a second," Kaida said to the large man before her, barely giving him a glance.

He watched Kaida move, one eyebrow raised at her. "I'll give you fourty dollars if you can beat all of my Pokemon, yes?" There was a very high chance that he was hustling her, but he wouldn't take her money if he won.... Zeus just wanted to fuck with someone that was all. He placed his one flesh hand against his hip and shifted his weight, listening to his Pokemon repeatedly squeak as they went back to kicking themselves in the face tot scratch a little itch. He didn't want to rush her with the newly hatched Pokemon anyways, and reached up to scratch under his nose, occupying his mind with the fact that... oh shit he had an egg too. Oh well, it wasn't with him though. He was supposed to be hatching it for someone but he wasn't exactly going to bring an egg to the beach. Zeus liked the water, and he liked his breaks from baby sitting... as well as being babysat by his husband.

Kaida studied the pokemon that had just hatched before her. Back in Johto, she had often spent many nights researching the various dragon types of the world. Oftentimes, it was the only homework that she would willingly and easily complete on time. Gible were an odd sort of creature, in her opinion, but their line was one of her favorites, nonetheless. This one in particular wielded a different color palette than what she had expected, having memorized the detail of pictures that she had seen in her studies. The electric-blue hide, with an orange underbelly, were nothing like the gible in her books. Even the shiny entries weren't quite this color. Still, she admired the shine to her eyes, and the notch-less fin atop her head.[break][break]

As the gible struggled to pull her rotund form onto her trainer's legs, Kaida let out a quick breath of air, signaling amusement, before taking the creature into her arms and standing up. The pokemon would no doubt go through a growth spurt within the next few days to weeks, but for now it was like holding a bowling ball with legs. Her skin was an odd mix between rough and scaly, almost like a sharpedo that had been sanded down. Rubbing her own legs together to help knock the sand off, she looked to the man who had challenged her. "How mu-" she began, about to ask how much the man had offered, however it was at that moment that her memory was jogged, and she recalled his voice: forty dollars.[break][break]

She closed her mouth and glanced down at the mudkip once more before looking up under her brow to Zeus's face. "Alright, old man. I'll take that bet," she stated confidently. Careful not to step into a hole that some idiot had dug and then proceeded to leave for anyone to trip on, she began to take some slow paces backwards. "You starting with the mudkip?" she called out, once she was an adequate distance away. The ocean behind her greeted her with a dull roar with each wave.

Zeus reached down underneath the small Mudkip's chin, motioning for the little baby to go ahead and step out to the field. "Why not?" He shrugged as his eyes stayed on the Mudkip taking small steps forward before sitting back down between the two trainers, turning his head at a strange angle to look back at Zeus. "Yes Kohaku. I see you." He spoke to the tiny Pokemon, waiting for the lady across from him to make here choice. Once again, he was here to mess with people, and he had a feeling his own Luxray knew that. The ball of the cat rocked ever so slightly, causing Zeus to stand up right and place his flesh hand on his hip once more. "So what of you?" Did this person have an ace in their back pocket too? Would he be met with a massive Poke as he would do to her? Ooh the suspense sent a shiver down his spine. He couldn't wait.

Kaida's brain buzzed with excitement as she considered who to use against the mudkip. As far as she knew, mudkip wasn't a ground type yet, the first evolution only holding the title of being a water type. None of the pokemon that she had with her had any specific advantages to water types, so she supposed she should just go with one who had resistance to-

[break][break]Her train of thought was cut off as the gible in her arms began to wiggle excitedly. Raising an eyebrow down at the freshly hatched dragon, she grinned as she chuckled softly. "You're an eager one, aren't you? You only hatched a minute ago and you already want to give battling a try, huh?" There was no way of knowing whether or not the gible could understand her yet, or even knew what she was volunteering herself to do, but Kaida gave in nonetheless. Not to mention, she didn't want to reveal all of her cards when she knew so little about the opponent's team.

[break][break]She set the pokemon on the ground and then watched as she moved easily through the sand to face her opponent. Wracking her brain, Kaida thought back to when she had studied gible. They started out with... tackle and sand attack, right? Okay, not the best selection, but the mudkip looked so young that it might not have any better moves itself.
