Chin-chi had taken the cross poison, but he didn't take it like a pro. While it didn't poison him, it did succeed in pissing the cat off even more. So much that when the Crobat had dodged his first Thunder Fang, Zeus had given the cat a shrug of his shoulders, and the fangs stayed electrified.
Chin-chi continued putting pressure on Mazz, mouth snapping open once again, paws forward, claws out and ready to tear the obnoxious flying pinata apart. Of course, Zeus wouldn't let Chin-chi kill this bat, but he wasn't going to reassure Pixen or Mazz that the cat wasn't going to absolutely maim him. The cat's hackles were still raised, crackling viciously but not charged as he moved in to try to rip at Mazz one more time.
The cat was trained to kill and he definitely wanted to kill the annoying thing. But maybe he was really mad because he knew Zeus wouldn't let him in the long run...
Oh, broken dreams. How you'll be missed.

More often than not, Mazz was one of, if not the fastest pokemon on the battlefield during any of PIxen's battles. More often than not, the strategy that Pixen used when her crobat was out on the field was to piss off the opponent with how easily he could dodge their attacks. Then she'd poison them, or confuse them, or preferably both, and within just a few turns, he'd be able to beat them easily.
However, more often than not, they were not battling a luxray twice his level. And so, in this case, he was not the fastest pokemon on the field. In fact, he was far from it. He fluttered as fast as he could away from the lion's teeth, but eventually they caught up with him, as he was unable to pull himself up and away fast enough. They dug into his hide, electric power coursing through his muscles. Luckily, the attack was so powerful that it knocked him out quickly, and he was almost immediately enveloped by the red, pulling light of his pokeball in Pixen's grip.
As she put her returned crobat's pokeball back into her pocket, she glanced down at her grimer beside her, who was no longer gurgling happily. This was the only sign of uncertainty that Pixen would allow to show through - otherwise she was as sunny as she had been. "That's one strong cat you have there," she calls out, her tone cheery as opposed to the anxiety that she was actually feeling. As she decided on who to use next, she also did a calculation of how much poison she had on her person at that very moment, comparing it to what was available around her and the various strategies she could use to get herself out of here in a pinch if she needed to.
She was in a difficult situation. It was difficult to tell if this pokemon was simply your strongest, token pokemon, or if your entire team was going to match up to the luxray's standards. Arceus, sh ereally needed a drink right now. Where was that good-for-nothing Coryn when you needed him?
Finally, she made a decision. "Time to play, Gaia!" she said as she tossed a different pokeball onto the field. From it erupted a nidorina, whose first action was to immediately let out a sharp but cute growl upon entering the battle. She then opened her mouth, and a beam of ice shot forth at her opponent, one cold enough to potentially freeze them if it hit in just the right spot.

Chin-chi snarled at the ground where the bat was for just a second, his body crouched some and he slinked back into a battle position, the tip of his tail flicking viciously. Zeus didn't intend on using just Chin-chi though, so he let the cat think he was going to stay out... for now.
He gave Pixen a smirk and a shrug. "Hey, careful, you might inflate his ego." and with that, he was shot a look by the cat, and a snarl. "And that's why you only get one."... and another growl. He'd be fine. He'd get over it. Eventually.
Then came the Nidorina, and an Ice Beam. The cold blast struck Chin-chi, but only left him shaking off frost. But before he could do anything, Zeus had a ball out and had already started withdrawing the lion right as he was going to pounce. "None of that." He spoke up, grabbing Azreal's ball and letting the Absol out in his place.
She stood there, much calmer than Chin-chi, but definitely just as trained on the Nidorina as her angry lion friend had been. She hummed softly to herself, Simply waiting for Zeus to speak up for her, unmoving. Zeus meanwhile, had already shifted his weight onto another one of his hips, and with his free hand, made some sort of wave to his Pokemon as he spoke back up in his foreign language once again. "Sword's dance."
It was a simple command, and she guessed she was fine with it. Swords appeared all around her, swirling and swinging towards each other before disappearing and covering her in a temporary red aura. Then she went back to standing idly, head held proud and high as she watched the Nidorina, waiting.

The nidorina's ice beam collides with the luxray. Confident about her first hit, she's tempted to look back at Pixen in order to gauge her trainer's reaction, but she knows that Pixen wouldn't want her to do that - she'd want her to remain focused on the battle. Which she is Her eyes are locked on the luxray, she's ready to dodge at any moment - does PIxen see that she's ready to dodge?
She fights the urge to look over her should until you return your luxray. At that point, she does turn her head for a glance back at Pixen, hoping to make the woman proud that she was strong enough to force the opponent to withdraw his pokemon! Or at least, that was what she was hoping had happened. However, the slightest of upward motion from Pixen's eyebrows commands the nidorina to focus back on the field, before the gym leader nods at your comment about inflating the luxray's ego.
Next up is an absol. This pokemon doesn't seem quite as beaten up as the luxray had - her fur seems to be pristine, every white follicle in place. Pixen is unsure of whether or not this pokemon boasts the same brute strength that the luxray had, but she's unwilling to put her guard down. At the very least, you cared enough about the equal advancement of these two pokemon that you weren't just going to let the luxray destroy every member of her team. While it's possible that you could have started with a large, powerful pokemon as an intimidation technique before switching to a lower leveled pokemon, she had the feeling that wasn't the case. Either way, she knew she'd do best by keeping a bit of distance between her pokemon and the opponent, even if the most effective attack against a dark type was one that would require close contact.
"Start with growl, directly into fury swipes," Pixen commands. There is no way to tell how knowledgeable you are about a nidorina's attacks, so she doesn't want to give away the fact that her pokemon might know a fighting move. With enough of a lowered defense, a fighting type attack, and rivalry in play, if she could just freeze this one, they might stand a chance.
From the moment the absol had been released onto the field, Gaia's posture had changed. She had hunkered down a little more, her spikes protruding to their full extent. Her eyes were trained on the female pokemon across from her. She had to focus. She had to defeat this other pokemon who was in her territory. She had to show Pixen that she was worthy of being on her Top Tier team.
As soon as her trainer utters the commands, Gaia lowers the front half of her body, lifting her back end so that her tail is in the air. She gives it a little wiggle before bounding forward as though she is going to give some sort of physical move. However, she stops with a good amount of space still in between her and her foe, and opens her mouth to shoot off another ice beam.

Was it weird that Zeus thought the lying on your attacks thing was predictable? There was some sort of rhythm Zeus was able to get behind for this fight. Going into it with the hint that your opponent lies in battle, then having your opponent affirm that, was something that just wound up helping Zeus. It was a trust nothing situation, so that's probably why he worked so well in it. He existed in a constant state of trust nobody.
So when the command was given, Zeus gave Azreal a soft shushing sound. She took the hit as commanded, staying calm despite ice nearly forming on her forelegs and shoulders. "Beautiful. Sword's dance and give them a Quick Attack." More power to hit even harder, in the end. Illusory swords formed around her, fought each other and disappeared once again, momentarily coating her in an aura before disappearing.
Then in the blink of an eye, she crouched, pounced and in several leaps to gather speed, Azreal launched herself towards the Nidorina.

As the ice beam encrusted the absol's front half with crystalized ice particles, Pixen watched hungrily to see if it would freeze the entire pokemon. When it didn't, she ignored the urge to show her disappointment, despite how strongly she felt it. The ice beam barely moved the absol, meaning that it was just as strong, if not stronger, than the luxray had been. More than likely, that one ice beam had been her pokemon's only chance at defeating it.
You command your pokemon in the foreign language, and once more Pixen waits to see what comes of it. Swords form and clash around your pokemon. Again, the gym leader suppresses an eyeroll, doubting that the pokemon needed any more attack power than it already had. Then, quicker than human and pokemon eye alike can follow, the absol moves forward, tackling Gaia to the ground. Instinctively, as she watched the pokemon leap forward, Gaia had curled herself to become a smaller target, revealing the poisonous pins upon her back. As the pokemon hits her, she is sent flying through the air, but not before the points have a chance to leak poison onto the absol.
She can't give in. She can't be finished in just one move. As darkness swirls around her and her vision becomes blurry, Gaia pushes herself to her feet. She refuses to give in so easily. A Top Tier pokemon does not give in after one hit.
Pixen smiles, despite the sinking feeling that this battle is lost. "Again," she instructs, and a small part of that is not a lie. Gaia once more shoves her back end in the air, wiggling her tail back and forth to lower her defense. She then takes advantage of the absol's proximity to attempt a double kick, her power heightened by her ability and drive to succeed.

Azreal's hackles stood on end as the kicks came her way, but she braced against the super effective attack the best she could, refusing to flinch, but at least shaking her head in irritation. "Good job, darling. Finish her with night slash." Zeus spoke up, rubbing his chin and covering a yawn with his mouth, shivering some. "Sorry, haven't slept well. Your pokemon are doing great though." He spoke in common as Azreal attack.
The mysterious Pokemon reared onto her hind legs, bringing down one of her paws in one powerful sweep, darkness cutting through the air as she swiped.

The quickly approaching realization that she was going to lose this battle entirely, and thus force her to be on her defenses in more ways than just a normal pokemon battle would caused her to almost drop her facade when the man across from her commented about her pokemon doing great. The words were tossed at her so casually. Great? Great? This was not what she would call "great." Her heart beat harder in her chest as anger flushed into her cheeks. She wanted to deck the man herself, with a set of brass knuckles dipped in her venom of choice.
Almost.
Instead, she smiled as her nidorina was brought down in one swoop of the absol's paw. "Thank you," she stated simply as she returned her pokemon, although it was unclear if it was directed at Zeus's compliment, or at her pokemon. Replacing the pokeball in her hand with another from her pocket, she tossed it in the air and immediately shouted commands. "Poison it! Then sunny day!"
The pokemon that emerged from the ball was an ivysaur. There was a look in her eyes that was different from the others - her pupils were dilated, and she seemed just a tad more on the feral side than her other two teammates. The moment that her feet hit the ground in front of the absol, she sprayed several seeds from her bulb in the dark-type's direction, as well as a mysterious powder.

Azreal was already on the verge of overworked, and it showed through when she was put to sleep, falling to the ground while poison ate away at her and what little HP remained was drained. Zeus recalled her and reminded his self to be careful when she wakes back up and gets patched up. She was gonna be pissed...
Rubbing his chin his hand reached to grab one of the two Pokeballs that wasn't beaten to hell and back, and tossed out his Metang, the Pokemon forming and it's silver coat gleaming in what light there was where they were at. "Let's start wrapping this up, shall we Hagane? Light screen, and follow through it with psychic!"
He watched as his Pokemon did exactly as told, a cold fighter when it came down to it, but still learning. It took a moment longer than he'd like to form the Light Screen, but the focused waves of psychic energy that blasted towards the Ivysaur were well practiced, shooting right towards it.

Azreal's fainting caused several subtle movements from Pixen: an eyebrow raise; a twitch at the corner of her otherwise saccharine smile; a few quick blinks in succession as she processed her pokemon defeating one of this man's beasts. All of the movements were small enough that they likely weren't visible from across the battlefield, but they were there, nonetheless.
The pokemon that Zeus sent out to replace the fallen absol was a pretty silver color, however it was quite the opposite of impressive in Pixen's opinion. A steel type. Just what she needed.
She remained silent as Zeus spoke to his pokemon in his foreign tongue. She didn't need to give any commands as of yet. Aspen was, arguably, the best suited for battle out of the pokemon she had remaining. She'd let the tigerish ivysaur have a moment to let some energy out. There was no question to either pokemon nor gym leader that two commands would be given to the metang, so Aspen was prepared to move after the wall of light appeared between them. Tentacle-like vines quickly appearing from somewhere within the ivysaur's leaves, she struck them onto the ground as she pushed off with her legs, giving herself quite the amount of vertical motion. Barely a second later, the psychic attack wafted across the battle field, hitting the exact spot that she had been just a moment ago. Leaning forward, the bulb upon her back opened, shooting out the same powder as her last attack, but this time without the seeds.
