Thomas DuPont
THE Momentum POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
Twenty-Three | Male | Neutral | Housekeeper |
APPEARANCE
He's a five foot tall, albino male, that's surprisingly well built for his mental status. Thanks to his Cotard's Delusions being caught when he was sixteen, he didn't suffer long and was able to return to semi normal eating patterns once again, letting him build body mass to the point where he is now. He's not muscular, but he is toned at the least. His clothes also span a wide variety of styles, though they're hand me downs and cheap. Old hoodies, flannels, t shirts, tank tops, sometimes no shirt at all. When it comes to his pants, he wears jogging pants, jeans, shorts or whatever he feels like. He only has two pairs of shoes though, and he tries to make them last as long as possible... they're usually torn up tennis shoes for parkour, skate shoes for when he's going places.
He has one difficult to notice scar on his head where he was thrown up against a fire place as a child. It's mostly covered by his hair now. On his left ear, he's missing a piece of his ear from an accident with one of his aunt's pokemon. His back is littered with scars of varying size and shape from his Aunt.
His facial expressions range and vary, but for the sake of understanding, we'll start with what he's like when he's stabilized. When stabilized, he's got a very dynamic facial expression. He seems to have one for every situation and he's quick on the draw with them. He actually bothers to shower and wear clean clothes. He also combs his hair and what not, making an effort to look like a decent human being.
When unstable, he usually doesn't bother with shaving, combing his hair or changing his shirt. It's rare to see him like this and he usually stays in his shed, laying on his couch and binge watching whatever is on the movie channel or something. The only thing that's consistent with his clothes is a pendant that stays around his neck at all times, hanging low enough on it's chain that it's at heart level.

PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - Outgoing - Spunky - Quick thinking - Humorous - Creative NEGATIVE - Depressed - Hypomanic - Angry - Lonely - Scared | "Takes one to know one." The positive points to the side are entirely based on when he's stable. Gonna start with negatives because these are the hardest to predict. Should also state that his mood is entirely unpredictable while he's unstable due to Bipolar 2 Disorder. His scared side almost constantly ever present when he's in a depressive episode. He fully understands what his Cotard's delusions were caused by, and is scared that he could fall back into them if he stays in an episode for too long. That basically covers what he's scared of, but the fear can crop up when he thinks of it and can sometimes make him start to panic over the memories. He doesn't want to believe he's dead again. Doesn't want that mental health relapse. Don't be fully mistaken though. Despite fearing falling back into Cotard's Delusions, he can talk about them on a stable day. He's slowly getting used to them, and some predict he'll get over his fear entirely if he doesn't experience any major set backs. His depressed and Hypomanic state comes straight from his Bipolar disorder. He has his highs and his lows, and sometimes bits and pieces of these highs and lows can poke through, even when his medicine is 'working'. When his medicine is off, the only part of these highs and lows you may catch are the highs, even then, to catch them, you have to catch him first. Ya know, on the roof tops and walls, running around and using what energy he has to do his favorite sport when he's actually feeling like moving. His anger mostly comes from how outwardly spicy he can be in situations. He's quick to assume people are messing with him, and he's quick to jump into a fight if someone instigates him. He's only really ever angry if someone draws it out of him, and he'll either stay angry for a while, or it'll dissipate with a mood swing. He is known to hold a grudge or two though over some petty things, so it's probably best to tread carefully. When he's stable though, he's a surprisingly outgoing individual. He's got a flexible sense of humor, and is a spunky little guy. He's a go-getter when he can be, and can surprisingly think circles around most people when it comes to reaction to a situation. He's quick-thinking on top of creative, which not only allows him to come up with vibrant ideas in his head when he's stable, but also allows him to grow better at Parkour as he practices. |
BACKGROUND
Thomas was born into an underprivileged family and still could be considered as such today. The old, run down trailer was just one of the things about them that made them what they were. The bills almost always went unpaid or paid late. Water and electricity was constantly shut off and the father wasn't too great himself. On top of the constant stress of life, her husband and trying to raise a son while protecting him from said husband was too much for Thomas's mother and she wound up taking her own life, unknowingly, right in front of him.
He was five, about to turn six when it happened, but no age is immune to bricks. His father, unable to cope with the screaming, locked up child, had thrown Thomas across the room in a fit of rage. The resulting events put the boy's entire life on a very fine string, the slightest jerk in his life threatened to snap the string. He was hospitalized, his father was jailed, and his brain scans came back showing heavy brain trauma. He'd never been considered 'right' in the first place as a kid. His mood was almost always unpredictable to most, and after the accident, it became worse.
He was soon diagnosed with Pediatric Bipolar Disorder, and was re-homed with his Aunt and Uncle out of the city. His life remained on that fine string. Mental instability, being moved into a new and strange environment and unknowingly to the officers, another abusive environment. The trailer was just as run down as his old one, the only difference was that his Aunt and Uncle actually was able to keep the lights on, continuously.
The terrible environment, coupled with his mental illness, eventually caused moments of dissociation. He was treated for them, but they came on strong, and more often than not, he had a melt down afterwards. When he was fourteen, all of this eventually led to him developing Cotard's Delusions, the state of believing that one's self, or parts of one's self are dead or missing. It's difficult to understand the disorder, considering it's rarity and that every case that develops it may share a few common denominators, but in the end, always have what seem like different reasons. Such is the nature of the human mind.
Part of him was using it to try and rationalize why his Aunt was always so mean to him. She was terrified of zombies, yea? The walking dead. Rotting beings bent on nothing but consumption of others? He had to be dead, right? That's why she treated him the way she did. He struggled with these delusions for a year as well, before he wound up being institutionalized while they tried to figure him out. Him telling others, including other students that he was dead wasn't enough. It took him roaming graveyards, barefoot, until his feet were bleeding and the police found him to get him taken in. Another part of him was looking for his own grave, once again, trying to rationalize everything going on in his head. He was held in a special hospital for a year while various therapists and doctors figured out what to do with him.
Thankfully, they were able to figure something out. Electroconvulsive Therapy on top of medications finally brought him out of his Delusions. He slowly started to believe that "yes, I am alive", and felt nothing but relief for when he was able to believe, with all of his heart that yes. He was still alive. He was monitored for a little while longer before being prescribed new medicines and released back to his Uncle's place.
While he was in the hospital, they had found that the Aunt had been abusing them both, and that the Uncle his self was completely innocent in all of this mess. There weren't many psychiatrists in the area, in fact, they both wound up with the same one. A man that, sorrowfully, was a corrupt Psychiatrist. On top of being uncomfortable in the trailer, he was uncomfortable in the psychiatrists office once he found out what he was like.
When he turned 18, they decided to put that shed that had been sitting in the backyard to use. It was expensive, but the Uncle had spent two years saving up what he could to help modify it into a suitable, registered living space for his nephew. They were able to insulate it, run plumbing through it and wire it. Thomas had no qualms about getting out of the trailer, so he was quick to relocate into the shed. His only problem was how alone he constantly felt. But it was better than staying surrounded by bad memories that still chilled him to the bone.
While he was out there, he decided that he'd also take his Aunt's Pokemon. His Uncle had very little to do with them, and when Thomas spoke up that he'd take them, he said nothing about it... good enough! He liked the Pokemon anyways, having grown up around the surprisingly gentle creatures. It was a secret within a secret. They were illegal and if his Aunt caught him, she'd have his ass. Now he had them to his self and that's that.
The shed is a nice little thing. With an old microwave, some make shift counters, a mini fridge, an old couch, an old TV, some kitchen curtains to cover the windows, his old mattress and a few other things make it feel much more like a home than the trailer. Especially with James McSnuffle Wuppugus, his big Eevee plushy there.
He now works for a judge as a house keeper. It's not the best paying job, and he takes up a job at a local horror attraction... which doesn't pay well either, but it keeps him and his Pokemon fed, and the lights on. He struggles with his mental illness currently, thanks to his stubborn psychiatrist. His current medicine isn't strong enough, and more or less, he's in an unstable mood, fighting with depression. The Hypomanic side of him wants to believe there's a way out, while his depression keeps on convincing him that he's trapped. He wants to battle more, but for now? He's stuck in a pit and can't see a way out.
