Sorry for the long post =.= it was necessary. Fawna currently only has juniper. If you could put her into a situation where she finds alder at some point, that would be lovely. Otherwise, they are in the Core of Hyo and are just lookin for some low-risk training.
Fawna had only received her first pokemon about 12 hours ago, but she still hadn't let the fennekin out of its pokeball. She had arrived at Coryn's late last night, and after the quick meeting, had considered releasing her pokemon in some back alley. However, she knew that it wouldn't be safe. She had enough common sense to guess that there were more patrols going on at night, and that she had better just play it safe and wait until during the day. Surely there would be more people around during the day, but that meant that even she wouldn't be quite as conspicuous. She had stayed in a cheap motel last night, too tired and too nervous to let her pokemon out in the room. Instead, she set the pokeball on the pillow beside her and fell almost immediately asleep. Who knew that just riding the transit all day would wear you out so much? She didn't sleep for long, and upon waking up, she headed across the street to the tiny market to buy two oranges - one for breakfast, and one for a spell. It was a spell for good first impressions, and other than the orange and the bath, she had everything else she needed from home in order for it to be complete. The hot water and lovely aromas of the bath not only helped her feel confident about her first impression towards the fennekin, but also helped soothed her anxieties. She was in Hyo City, on the other side of Anrui from her home, but home was just a phone call away. She had joined the Resistance. She had a pokemon, but no one knew that yet. There were no cameras inside of her room, and no one had seen her exit Coryn's lab. For now, she was safe, and she would remain safe as long as she was smart. She could do this.Still, as she set off into town with her bag of supplies on her back and her pokeball in her pocket, she couldn't stop the butterflies from fluttering in her stomach. Everywhere she went, there were people around. None of them stared at her, but every glance was like pushing a knife into her stomach. It wasn't long before she dove into an alley and around a corner, out of sight. She sighed, reaching into her pocket for the pokeball. It was still just as warm as it had been the night before, but there seemed to be more of an energy coming from it. With a deep breath, she closed her eyes and then tossed the ball. Upon hearing the buzzing and whirring of her pokemon emerging, she opened them again and looked down. A small, female fennekin was looking up at her with large, orange eyes. The fox stepped forward, her nose wiggling as she took a few sniffs. <"You smell good,"> she said, although it was nothing more than a few barks to Fawna. The trainer was astounded at the sight of the fire-type. She knew that there was a fennekin inside, but she hadn't prepared herself to see her. Slowly, she knelt down so that she was on her knees, her hands folded on top of her legs and her butt resting on her feet. "You're more beautiful than I could have imagined," Fawn said, in awe. The fennekin smiled and blushed, kicking a little at the dust on the street. "Do you have a name?"The pokemon looked up at her and tilted her head, but then shook it. As far as she could remember, Coryn and Naru hadn't given her a name. Fawna grinned. She had been wondering if she'd be given the opportunity to name the fox, and had thought about what she would name it if she could as she fell asleep. "Can I call you Juniper, then?"The fennekin barked a few times quietly, tasting the name on her tongue in her own language. Finally, she looked back up to Fawna and smiled, nodding her head. She took a few steps forward and climbed onto Fawna's lap as best as she could. Grinning as wide as she had ever possibly grinned, Fawna picked the fox up in her arms and stood. "Okay Juniper. What do you say we find some pokemon to battle?" The little fox barked happily, her tongue loling out of her mouth as she was carried by her trainer.
+1 juniper

I NEVER PROMISED YOU ANYTHING I COULDN'T DO Hyo City was a mess. Agnieszka was used to Lesca Island, a place of relative serenity and beauty, not this chaotic labyrinth of a city that smelled like smog and rotten fish. But she had to come through here to visit the lab, where she'd get her official starter Pokemon... not the motley crew she'd already started to gather by way of asking around if anybody had any strays to dump off on her. One such Pokemon followed behind her now as she traversed the alleys, holding her tote bag full of eggs in her arms.
The Voltorb remained eerily silent as it rolled. She'd named it Olaf. It didn't seem to like or dislike the name, so she kept it. Right now it was out and about so she could get a feel for its personality, and the 'feel' she got was that it had none. Still, it was kind of cute, in a weird way. She'd always had a soft spot for the more mechanical Pokemon, the ones that more closely resembled inanimate objects.
Olaf came to a stop. Nieshka perked up a little, wondering what was going on in the Voltorb's head... body... whatever. Before long, she noticed that somebody was coming towards them from the opposite end of the alley. Squinting through the glare in her glasses, she thought she recognized them. A grin spread over her face, and she immediately returned Olaf to his ball and crouched behind a trash can.
Gross.
As Fawna approached, Nieshka waited... and waited... and right as the other girl crossed her line of sight, she burst out of hiding with a shout of "BOO!", arms spread wide, cackling madly as she flailed. "Betcha weren't expecting this!" Well, to be fair, neither was she. This struck her as the sort of odd coincidence that only happened in video games. WE TRIED TO BURY IT AND RISE ABOVE[+1 level to voltorb. 2/15 on all 3 eggs.] jello Fawna Hawke

Bright, beautiful Hyo City with its seedy motels and pothole filled streets seemed to have welcomed both of them with open arms. Open arms that might hug you as soon as squeeze the life out of you. But it was all part of the fun to find out, right?
The area you are in is off a small side street, an alleyway overlooked by the general populace, but could very well serve your purposes indeed. Fire escapes lead up to rooftops, where a keen-eyed person might be able to scope out all sorts of potential threats and goodies.
Off in the distance, when Fawna recovers from Nieshka's jump scare, the sound of shrill, broken tweeting can be heard, tucked in the recess of a building.
The constant low buzz of traffic and human voices does remind the two to have caution as they explore the area. After-all, Hyo's core is a heavily populated area of town, and anyone could be walking right around the corner.

Perhaps if Fawna had been wiser or more accustomed to the area, she would have chosen a better place to train. She could have chosen the docks, where the pokemon were known to be younger and easier to fight, or perhaps the Industrial District where it was known that there were more pokemon than people. However, she wasn't familiar with the area, and she had chosen a portion of the city where people milled about, where she hoped to remain unsuspicious in the eyes of those around her. Of course, she couldn't be unsuspicious with a fennekin in her arms, so she tried to hide her as best as she could as they walked.
She could guess that she didn't show it well, but she was just too damn excited to put Juniper back into her pokeball. Every time she walked around a corner, deeper into the small alleyways, she peered around, checking to make sure no one was following her. It was the fact that she had looked left as she turned right that she hadn't spotted Agnieszka's bright hair, otherwise she would have recognized the other girl in a second.
Meanwhile, Fawn's distinctive purple cloak flowing behind her probably gave her away just as easily. As she looked forward again, she didn't see the other girl dive behind the trashcan, but Juniper did. As they approached the spot where the prank was to happen, the fox's fur bristled, but Fawna didn't pay attention enough to feel it happening.
Thus, when Nieshka jumped out, Juniper was more surprised by Fawn's reaction than she was the actual scare. Completely unused to the dangers of a city like Hyo, Fawn immediately assumed the worst. Letting out a piercing scream that was incredibly uncharacteristic of her, she jumped and uncontrollably pushed her arms out, which sent Juniper nearly flying. The two then scrambled - Juniper so as to attempt to prepare for her inevitable landing on the hard ground and Fawn in an attempt to catch the now flying fox. She did manage to catch her tho, and as soon as she did, she turned to look at her attacker.
Only it wasn't an attacker. It was Agnieszka. Wait, what?
Eyes as wide as saucers and heart pounding in her chest, Fawn stared at her friend as she cackled in the street. For several seconds, she was speechless, before she could mumble out the words "Oh my groudon... Oh my groudon!" Slowly, a smile spread across her face, and she began laughing as well, although it was still a little bit out of shock and less out of amusement. "Nieshka, what are you doing here? Why aren't you in Lesca?" she asked incredulously. Meanwhile, Juniper, surprised that her trainer wasn't more upset about this, looked up at her, and then to Nieshka, and then back, a questioning look on her face.
"Hey, what is going on here?" the little fox inquired, but Fawna was too distracted to listen to her small barks.

I NEVER PROMISED YOU ANYTHING I COULDN'T DO Nieshka waited for her own laughter to die down before she answered Fawn's question. She settled her hands into her pockets, adopting a casual pose now that she was out in the open. It would be one familiar to Fawn. "I've been doing some part time work on the side for the Resistance for a while now," she explained lightly, eyebrows lifting. She had no problem with saying something so incriminating in this case, even though she apparently hadn't mentioned it before. "I thought I'd finally join the cause for real, so here I am, about to meet what's-his-face. Coryn."
She hefted her bag back up to her chest again, clutching it tightly so as not to drop it. Her skinny arms weren't used to dealing with such weight. "I'm assuming you did the same thing, right? That why you've got such a cute little guy? Or girl, whatever." If her hands weren't occupied, she'd have reached out to try and give the Fennekin a little boop on the nose. "I've got a few babies of my own hiding in here."
Then, for a moment, she was silent. Nieshka tilted her head, listening to the tweeting in the distance. She shifted her bag to her back, shouldering the weight of the eggs before she grabbed Fawn's shoulder and pointed her towards where she thought she heard the noise. "Hey, you hear that? We should go check it out!" Just as it had always been, Nieshka moved from one subject to another much too quickly for Fawna to respond. It had always been that way, ever since she had met the girl when she started public school. She had distant memories of the red head draping her arm around her shoulder and telling her all of the ins and outs of school, how to avoid trouble with teachers, how to really piss off other teachers, which lunch lady would give you extra food... Literally everything she could imagine about school, with very little time for her to absorb all of the information. As they grew up, it sort of became the norm. Fawna's shyness as well as her willingness to listen to one of her only friends lent itself well to Nieshka's fast moving mind, while the other girl's quick talking was normal enough that Fawn never felt pressured to respond if she didn't have anything immediate to say, especially to strangers.
And so, like normal, Fawna barely took that moment of silence to absorb all of the information she had been given before she was distracted by something else Nieskha said, or in this case did. She turned willingly in the direction that the girl had pointed, and listened for the sound she heard. When Nieshka suggested that they check it out, she nodded. "Okay!" she said after a moment, her voice still a little stunned from it all. Quickly, she began to walk in the direction of the tweeting. "I was hoping to train Juniper a little bit. Maybe it's a pokemon we can try to battle."
Juniper, meanwhile, was just as stunned as Fawna had been, but for different reasons. She was not used to Agnieszka's demeanor, but she was better able to keep up, at least enough to be confused... if that makes sense. The new girl worked for the Resistance, but was only now just joining... She was most obviously a female, thank you very much... What kind of babies did she have? Baby pokemon? What types? All in all, Juniper was not yet impressed. She looked up at Fawna and gave off a few soft barks, but her protests were ignored.

The sound of Fawna's scream carried itself on the wind, reaching the ears of an elder man and his son sitting in lawn chairs on the rooftop of a nearby building. Soft, campy music filled only a small space, though the broken tweeting overlapped it. As the father stood up, a bottle in hand and watching the both of you, his son stood next to him and gazed out in the direction of the sound you decide to follow.
The two share a few words before going back to their day of relaxation and refreshment.
Soft, quick chirps join the ones coming from a building nearby, and the exterior is in strangely good condition. The front doors are not boarded up, unlike some buildings both of you have passed before the chance meeting. There is an open window on the left side, and a few discarded crates sitting just underneath it in a stack, as if someone had broken in. If the doors are open to begin with, why bother?
The gentler sounds are louder and more rapid now, as the cracked ones have stopped entirely. A figure appears on the sill of the window, feathers dirty and beak with some scarring. It is not the source of either tweeting, though it does begin to strike audibly with its own discordant harmony as the three of you approach.
it's either asking for help, or telling you to go away...

This is more of a reminder for myself than for the mods, but in this current thread, Fawna only has Juniper. and if you could set her up to meet alder the riolu at some point (complete with his pokeball), that'd be swellll. Also just gonna uh continue this thread without nieshka tbh
Soon after pressing on towards the broken chirping, they came to a T in their alley. Fawna looked left then right, while the fennekin that was buried in her arms did the opposite. After a few seconds, Fawna heard a different sort of chirping, and looked down the alley to her left. "I'm going to check this side out. It sounds a little different, so there might be more than one. " Assuming Nieshka would quickly find herself bored with whatever one bird had to offer, Fawna figured she'd find more entertainment on her own down the other side of the T.
As they walked, Fawna began to get swanna-bumps on her arms. Sensing her discomfort, Juniper looked up at her trainer and let out a small yip. The witch looked down at her pokemon and smiled, before stopping to look around. It was then that she heard the new chirping again. Looking up, she spotted a pidove, with some scars on its beak and some dust on its wings.
"Hey, what about that one?" she asked, giving another glance to the fennekin in her arms. "Think we could take it?"
Juniper reacted by pushing at Fawna's arms in an attempt to get down. Quickly, Fawn bent down, allowing the fox to jump out. With a confident look, Juniper gave a few barks up to the pidove in the window. "Hey! You! Wanna come down here and have some fun?"

The pidove seemed to be alerted by Juniper's barking. The bird looked down from his roost at the fox and her trainer, an unfriendly expression on his face. He fluffed his wings a bit and coo'd. "I don't think I do, no thank you," he responded. Although Fawna couldn't understand the pokemon language, she could tell that the cooing didn't sound very friendly.
"Maybe we should leave it alone if it doesn't want to battle, Juniper," Fawna said carefully, looking down from the pidove to her fennekin. She was already going against her family's beliefs by training a pokemon, and she didn't feel comfortable forcing a wild one to fight if it didn't want to.
Juniper didn't look back at her trainer. Instead, she stared at the pidove for a few more seconds before her challenging expression became one of judgement. "Well, I guess if bird-brains is took weak to fight, then we better just let it go then," she said, a sly smile on her face as she turned and began walking slowly down the alley.
Fawna wasn't quite sure what Juniper had said to convince the bird, but suddenly he was flapping his wings and fluttering down from his perch, cooing madly. "Juni-" Fawna was about to warn her fox, but Juniper turned around in time to catch the bird landing behind her.
"Yea, that's what I thought," Juniper growled out as she crouched forward, ready to battle.
Fawna was only confused for a moment longer. Whatever Juniper had barked up to the pidove had convinced it to come down and battle, so battle they would she supposed. "Alright then, Juniper! Here we go! Start with a tail whip, and then ember!" Years of reading about pokemon had prepared her for this day, for her first battle. She knew that she wasn't anywhere near an expert, and that the books she was reading were probably outdated, but she still felt confident that they could win the battle. She knew that tail whip was a good choice to help lower the defense of the other pokemon. She didn't realize that it wouldn't have any effect if her pokemon was using a special move such as ember, but it was a good start at least.
She also wasn't aware of pidove's ability. When Juniper wiggled her tail cutely, the pidove just fluffed his wings confidently. Juniper didn't take time to dwell on it, though. Stepping forward, she barked and out of her maw she sent a few flaming embers towards the bird.
The pidove was hit by the embers and grimaced, taking a step back. After the initial pain went away, he began to growl and to flap his wings and lift himself a few feet in the air. Continuing to flap, he began to stir up the debris and dust in the surrounding alley into a small tornado, which then began to move towards Juniper. Not wanting to avoid an attack and appear weak, Juniper allowed the debris and wind to strike her.
