JOSEPHINE MARRIAN JACOBS.
THE ERRATIC POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
EIGHTEEN | FEMALE | PLASMA | TRAINER |
APPEARANCE
If Jo were tall, the easiest word to describe her build would be lanky. Unbelievably lanky. But alas, despite her praying every night as a child that she would skyrocket up to six feet tall, Jo stunted at the age of 12 and never grew past 5’1. As she spends most of her time walking around and almost never picks up more than five pounds of weight at a time, she is incredibly skinny, with her arms and legs disproportionately long for her size. Her chest in nearly nonexistent, and her hands and feet look as though they could belong to a child. Though naturally pale, Jo’s affinity towards the outdoors has left her skin with a faint bronze tint and a rosy flush to her cheeks.
Jo’s face is small and round with low cheekbones a pointed chin. Her nose is petite with a slight upturn of the tip and faint freckles blossom over the bridge. Her lips are thin but have a prominent cupid’s bow, and her teeth are certainly not pearly whites. As she never had dental care, her smile is a bit misaligned, but nothing horribly noticeable, and they’re the color of eggshells. Her collarbones protrude prominently beneath her short, slim neck. Jo’s favorite feature about herself are her eyes, which are a brilliant teal blue, slightly narrowed and topped with short but plentiful lashes. They are softly framed by the silky strawberry blonde locks that spill over her forehead and the sides of her face. She usually pulls the long, thin strands back into two low pigtails that drape over shoulders and stop just at her breast line.
Generally Jo likes to dress very casually, usually sporting a loose t-shirt or long sleeve shirt with comfy shorts or stretchy jeans. She almost always wears the same beat up sneakers with the sole that’s coming off that she’s had for two years. Since she gets cold very easily, and doesn’t care much about her appearance, she will heedlessly throw on every article of clothing she can get her hands on until she’s warm, no matter how disheveled the final outcome looks.

PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - Independent - Adventurous - Fearless - Compassionate - Capable NEGATIVE - Independent - Dishonest - Quarrelsome - Surly - Unsociable LIKES - Sightseeing - The Great Outdoors - Sweets - Birds - Wind instruments DISLIKES - People - Physical Contact - Teamwork - Cold - Thunderstorms | Jo has two personalities. Not in the sense of a disorder of any sort, just that she becomes an entirely different person when she is around people. When Jo is by herself or with Pokemon, she is just about the happiest person on the planet and when she’s doing something she loves, a smile is almost permanently plastered on her face. She is incredibly kind and compassionate, and cares deeply for her Pokemon and wild Pokemon alike. Her favorite thing to do is explore, and, since she hates being distracted from all the interesting views around her, rarely wants the company of another person. She is a remarkably driven and motivated person, however she is also fickle. Her priorities are constantly shifting, but whatever she is consumed with at the time receives all her time and attention. When Jo is around people, she is unbelievably guarded and standoffish. Not a single person can say that they’ve become anything more to her than an acquaintance, as Jo immediately assumes the worst of the people she meets. Few to no people are willing to make the effort to change her assumptions either. She also hates human contact, and physically reacts negatively whenever someone tries and/or succeeds to touch her. When it comes to people abusing Pokemon, she has no issue spitting venom at that trainer, and has also grown contempt for Pokemon that have become bullies like their trainers. Jo is also a compulsive liar, and she hates that about herself. She has a horrible habit of not taking responsibility for her own actions, and while she would never shift the blame to someone innocent, she will bullshit her way through any sticky situation. She’s fairly good at keeping her story straight and not muddling things to the point of not remembering who she told what, but she definitely has her slip ups. If she’s caught, she gets unbelievably embarrassed and plays the series of events over in her mind almost obsessively. In this sense, she’s also very hard on herself and is easily her own worst critic. |
BACKGROUND
Josephine Marrian Jacobs was only 2 months old when her parents dropped her off on the doorstep of St. Victini’s, an orphanage just south of Camphrier Town in Kalos. All they had left with her was a light blue blanket and a note, which stated her name and gave a brief apology for the decision they had made.
The nuns took Jo in, though she didn’t stay at the orphanage long. A newly wed couple that had repeatedly failed to conceive adopted her within the month, and they proceeded to care for Jo for the following three years of her life. However, Jo was trouble from the day one, crying incessantly day and night and screaming whenever she was touched. No matter how much time passed, Jo’s behavior never improved, and her adoptive father began to resent her and blamed her for the problems in his marriage. He eventually left his baby and his wife, and her adoptive mother couldn’t support or cope with raising Jo alone. She eventually relinquished her back to the orphanage, where she was quickly put into the foster system.
Jo cycled through several group homes over the course of the next four years, and her hatred for other people festered with each new home she was transferred to. As a kid, Jo was often picked on for her small size and impudent personality, and every foster parent she lived with always made it clear that they were only in it for the money. As a result, Jo became extremely unsocial and distrusting towards everyone she met.
As she got older, Jo became increasingly defiant, and she began to rebel against her caretakers at every possible opportunity. She would often sneak out into the city and wander around for hours or even days at a time, though she couldn’t go far without a pokémon to protect her. When she’d asked why she couldn’t go out on an adventure like every other 10-year-old, Jo was told that foster parents weren’t expected to deal with the responsibility of a traveling child. She instead became obsessed with researching pokémon, and she’d spend hours in the library studying up on battling techniques, pokémon biology, and anything else she could get her hands on. She’d then beg each new family she lived with to give her a pokémon of her own, but no one thought the “bratty little bitch” could possibly care for one properly. She settled with befriending wild pokémon, though she was never able to take them with her when she ultimately got transferred to a new city.
Eventually Jo ended up in Fortree City with a family who actually fostered children out of the goodness of their hearts and not for the check they received at the end of each month. They were the first people to be kind to Jo, and they encouraged her to make friends with the pokémon that abundantly lived in the surrounding the forest. It was here that Jo finally got to feel real, honest-to-god happiness.
On her 16th birthday, Jo received a letter from a couple claiming to be her parents. In the letter, they told her that they were sorry for what they had to do all those years ago, and that they would like to meet her. Additionally, she had a new baby brother that they were dying to introduce her to. Jo, however, wanted nothing to do with the family that abandoned her, as she considered the couple in Fortree to be her real family. Just a few months later, though, her foster mother informed her that she was pregnant, and with a baby on the way they had decided that they couldn’t keep caring for Jo. Jo couldn’t understand how they could throw her away so easily, and believed the last four years of her life had been a lie, and that at the end of the day the couple had never truly cared about her the way they said they did. Soon after she was shipped off to her next home in Anrui, where she’d spend her last two years of childhood.
As Jo came to understand the political state of Anrui, she grew resentful of Plasma and their goal to completely illegalize and eradicate anything related to pokémon. When she was legally an adult, Jo came to the decision that rather than fight with the Resistance, she would infiltrate the organization and destroy them from the inside while liberating as many pokémon as she could.
