KAIDA OKAMOTO.
THE LITTLE DRAGON POKEMON
AGE | GENDER | ALLEGIANCE | OCCUPATION |
TWENTY TWO. | FEMALE. | PLASMA | SPY |
APPEARANCE
Kaida’s spiritedness is equally matched by how she looks. Her straight, black, layered hair is nearly always pulled back into a ponytail. However, due to how active she is, it’s always getting messed up, and usually a good amount of it slips out and hangs at the sides of her head while her straight bangs lay somewhat neatly over her forehead. She has what some people know as “wild eyes” – while her eyes themselves are quite large, her pupils and surrounding irises are rather small, giving her an all-around intense look. The irises themselves are a deep dark brown, which often times are mistaken as maroon in color, only adding to the penetrating stare. She has a small nose, but a large smile. Typically, she smiles with her mouth open, almost in an animalistic fashion. When she’s really excited though, or when she sees something she wants, her grin bares her teeth like a dragon baring her fangs. She was born with very poor hearing, and requires hearing aids in order to hear properly, however she avoids them when she can. When she does wear them, they are dark and are usually hidden beneath her hair.
She has very pale, light skin, and her body, while having some muscle, is rather slender due to a metabolism as fast as her thoughts. Despite being twenty two, she still often gets mistaken for a teenager at first glance. While living in Blackthorn, she had a tendency to wear long sleeves in order to fight the cold from the northern city. Now that she has moved to Anrui, she typically bears some sort of camisole, the most common being a black halter-top with a red neckline and red crescents on the chest. Short, grey cargo shorts replaced her winter pants, held up by a belt that matches her cami. Off-white stockings rise from her ankles to a little past her knees, and a unique pair of ankled sandals adorn her feet.
Perhaps the two most interesting items on her person – and the two that supplement her wild looks the most – are the cape on her back and the serpent-like hunk of metal that twists its way around her lower right leg. The cape has a hood, with black feathers poking out from underneath, and is tied around her neck. It is a similar off-white as her stockings, though unlike her stockings it is ripped and torn. Secretly, it is hiding the scars and burns that run and create a map across her back. If you ask her, though, she’d just tell you that capes are coming back in style, and hers looks cool. The metal snake around her leg is a shimmery light blue, seemingly untouched by dirt and grime. Clashing with her outfit, it attracts attention, which is perhaps why she had the keystone that it used to contain seized upon entering Anrui.

PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - DETERMINED - KIND - STRAIGHTFORWARD - HUMOROUS - ENTHUSIASTIC NEGATIVE - IMMATURE - IMPATIENT - IRRATIONAL - BULL-HEADED - SELF-CENTERED | Kaida is not stupid by any means. To be completely honest, her mind is near constantly running, and if she would just take some time to sit down and organize her thoughts, she’d probably make some pretty smart choices. However, she is impatient, and at the end of the day, her impatience is what gets her in trouble. If she wants something, she wants it now, and if she is faced with a problem, she goes with her gut reaction instead of thinking things through. To her, power and levels are what make pokemon strong, not strategy. To her, it might be true that strategy can help take down a stronger foe, but put enough levels between yourself and the other pokemon, and not even strategy can help you. This was the old Master’s main worry when he sent her to Anrui. Her bull-headedness does not stop her from enjoying life, however. She adores her pokemon, and her enthusiasm for the sport of pokemon training could be said to be the only reason that she is actually patient with them. While she is determined to be a strong Dragon Master some day, she knows that she can’t push her pokemon too hard, or else they will snap just as she did. She has a passion for pokemon, and acts differently towards them than she does towards humans. She has a special kind of patience and gentleness when it comes to smaller pokemon, while towards larger and older pokemon she develops a commanding fierceness. When it comes to humans, however, she believes that respect is earned, not given. If you treat her correctly, she’ll be kind to you, however if you anger her or if she becomes impatient with you, she will not waste her time with you. |
BACKGROUND
Kaida, meaning little dragon.
Kaida was a youngest child in a powerful family who never met, let alone exceeded, the expectations set by her older cousins. While there are certainly members of the Dragon Clan of Blackthorn City who are younger than her now due to her many distant relatives, for a long time it was just her, Lance, and Clair, both of whom are quite a good deal older than she is. By the time she was born, Lance had already been in the Elite Four of Johto for several months, and by the time she reached her second birthday, Clair had taken up the position as Gym Leader. It wasn’t that they were so successful while she was so young that she had problems – no one expects a two year old to be able to hold her own against an adult gym leader, after all. The problem was that by the time Lance reached eleven, his magikarp had already evolved into a gyarados and he had three other pokemon just as strong under his command. It was that by the time Clair was five, she already had one dratini, and by the time she was eleven, both of her dratini were already on the verge of evolving. When Kaida was eleven, she had a horsea that she had caught when visiting family friends in Cerulean City when she was eight, and a dratini that was just barely over level twenty.
Kaida, and her parents, and her aunts and uncles, and all of the elders, and probably the entire city of Blackthorn, always knew that she would never be the great Dragon Master that her two closest cousins grew up to be. They didn’t push her like they pushed the other two, although Kaida didn’t know that. In her mind, she was being pushed just as much as the other two had been, but was coming up with less than acceptable results. Several years’ worth of frustration over not being good enough eventually boiled over at the tender age of nine, until she snuck into the Dragon’s Den one evening in order to deface the Shrine. She didn’t get far, however. Those on guard duty eventually found her and, not even stopping to think that one such as Kaida would do such a terrible act, set their pokemon on her.
She came away from the accident with scars, but also a new pokemon. While at first she took the dragons’ blows head on, she instinctively crouched and hid her face – a mistake that perhaps could have prevented her back injuries and helped her attackers sooner realize who she was had she not done so. The scars and bruises on her face eventually healed, but the long, twisted lines and burns on her back will never go away, guaranteed according to the Elders. After only a few moments of assault, the attacks stopped, and she heard a cry in front of her. Peeking her face out of her arms for just a moment, she saw that a dratini had crawled up onto the shore, distracting the other dragons, and a guilty cry had escaped her lips before she passed out from the brutal pain of the attacks. A few days later, she woke up in her own bed, with two pokeballs instead of one on her bedside table. According to the Elders, once the fighting had stopped, the dratini had coiled up beside her, refusing to leave her side until she too fainted from exhaustion.
Fast-forward thirteen years later. The tyranny of Plasma had long reached the ears of those in surrounding regions, including Johto. All of the dragon trainers of Blackthorn City were invited by the Elders to have a meeting on whether or not they should do anything about the tyrants of the foreign region. Each member had brought their strongest pokemon to sit near the table with them. Kaida watched from her seat at the back of the table, squished between two very old, uninterested men (one of which she was pretty sure was snoring), as her two cousins at the head of the table informed the Master of the Dragon Tamer Clan of the state of the region. Her dratini sat coiled at her feet. People from around the table spoke up, some in favor of interfering, and some favoring to mind their own business. Their pokemon would grunt, cry, or hiss in agreement with their trainers. After a good amount of bickering during which Kaida and the Master both stayed silent (she wasn’t, after all, an Elder, or the Master - she was just a trainer), the old Master stood, and lifted a hand.
”As members of the Dragon Tamer Clan,” he began, his voice old and worn, ”it is our sworn duty to protect the blessed dragon type pokemon. It is not our duty as members of the Dragon Tamer Clan to travel to different lands and try to be heroes.” Members sitting at the table who were not in favor of challenging Plasma spoke up in agreeance, their pokemon echoing their trainers. The old Master paused again, he and his greying dragonite’s faces calm, until there was silence around the table once more. ”However, it is our moral obligation as trainers to help those in need. We will send one trainer to infiltrate and report back to us the situation in the Anrui Region.”
There was much arguing as the old Master sat back down, however it was no longer about whether or not to send anyone, but instead who to send. Much to Lance’s and Clair’s obvious displeasure, it was decided that they were too well known around the Pokemon world to attempt to infiltrate. After several minutes of arguing, Kaida raised her hand. ”I-I’ll go,” she said quietly; her dratini uncoiled and slithered onto the table. Again, debating voices were heard from around the table, although many of these were angry. She was just a trainer! Her dratini had barely grown into its ear fins yet, and her only other pokemon was a horsea! She’s too young! She’s too weak!
But when the old Master lifted his hand, everyone fell silent. ”Okamoto Kaida, stand with me.” As the old Master stood, Kaida also stood, her eyes wide and frightened - she had obviously spoken out of turn and was about to suffer the consequences in front of the entire clan. ”You are headstrong, but you are weak,” he said slowly. Kaida bit her lip as she stared down at the table in front of her. ”You would be the perfect candidate to avoid suspicion.” A muttering washed over the table, mostly in unhappy agreeance. Lance and Clair stared at her from their seats on either side of the old Master, their expressions a mix of disbelief and jealous anger. Eyes still wide, Kaida looked up at the old Master and smiled, her mouth wide open.
Two months later, she was on a ship to the Anrui Region with two pokeballs and a little bit of money in her bag, but big plans in her head. Upon arriving in Anrui, she had her pokemon and keystone seized, and is being taken to Antoinette.

POKEMON

CHIHIRO. HORSEA. FEMALE. LEVEL 25.
BUBBLE. SMOKESCREEN. LEER. WATER GUN. TWISTER. BUBBLEBEAM.
BUBBLE. SMOKESCREEN. LEER. WATER GUN. TWISTER. BUBBLEBEAM.
Unlike her namesake, Chihiro is a rather serious, and confident Pokemon. She doesn't have much of a sense of humor, which just adds to Kaida's enjoyment when she plays tricks on the small water-type. Unlike her trainer, she is calculating and prefers sound strategies, most likely because her size puts her at a disadvantage against many Pokemon. She met Kaida when the girl was very young, on a trip to visit family friends in Cerulean City. She was the first Pokemon that Kaida caught when she was learning how to fish, and she was the only Pokemon Kaida thought she needed.

HAKU. DRATINI. MALE. LEVEL 28.
LEER. THUNDERWAVE. TWISTER. DRAGON RAGE. SLAM. AGILITY.
LEER. THUNDERWAVE. TWISTER. DRAGON RAGE. SLAM. AGILITY.
Haku is a young Pokemon for his species, and he has the energy to show it. He enjoys teaming up with Kaida to play pranks on Chihiro, and likes to point out in various subtle and not-so-subtle ways that he is much bigger than the horsea. When it comes down to it, however, he is very protective of Kaida, and (usually forgetting his size) likes to attempt to curl up around her when he fears for her safety.
