Life had been a ride.
Here he was, walking home after being placed in a hospital for nearly a year. As if home was still where it had been, waiting for him to arrive.
He had stopped on multiple occasions, gripping the strap of his bag and staring ahead, worrying his bottom lip. In his right hand, a pokemon egg sat, cradled in the crook of his arm, offering to help some older woman to hatch it. Whenever Alex would stop, Raijin would too and look back at him to make sure he was alright each time. He'd been the first of Alex's pokemon to express how happy they were to see him, to be near him again. He'd also growled and sparked at a majority of the hospital staff when they suggested putting him back into his Poké Ball, but who had really been paying attention to all the details?
Raijin had always been protective of Alex since losing his last trainer, walking over to the man and brushing up against Alex's elbow in comfort. It seemed to snap Alex out of his thoughts for a moment, and he looked down with a gentle smile at the blue and black pokemon. "I'm okay." He would say this each time, though Raijin didn't believe him one bit and he was right to do so.
In Alex's mind, he was freaking out. What if - when he got home - Emerson no longer wanted anything to do with him? What if he had moved on, found someone else? Would he have? Would Alex have to find a hotel or something to stay at?
What about Emalee? How would she react to Alex popping out and back in out of the blue like that to her twin brother? They'd not really gotten the chance to get to know one another, so the outcome was a little hazy on that end, having gotten the phone call about his mother's funeral only days after she'd moved in with them.
What about all his stuff? Was his room the same? Was is gone like he'd been?
He blamed himself, wishing he had stayed in contact with everyone, even if it wasn't Emerson (because at least then, that person could let him know that Alex was safe).
He shifted the yellow egg from one arm to the other, feeling a slight cramp in his elbow. He stopped midway to hold it in front of him, the surface of the egg warm where it had been cradled. He frowned. "Wonder what it could be ..." He had turned the egg over several times, a yellow body with a brown undertone like grass. But Raijin was no longer paying attention to Alex, his attention shifted on something else that Alex could not see ...
